Musée départemental de la Résistance & de la Déportation — Attraction in Toulouse

This is a fantastic museum in terms of exhibits. The staff were friendly and helpful. However it wasn't particularly intuitively laid out and the sheer amount of text to read was overwhelming. There were panels everywhere. At some point it just gets too much and you stop reading and just start looking at stuff without reading the information about it. Very little of it is in English and a lot of the English information sheets were missing. It was fine for me because I speak enough French to understand the texts, but there was a guy visiting whose girlfriend had to translate everything in the temporary exhibit and at least 80% of the main exhibition. Clearly not geared for international visitors, which is a real shame because it's very much worth visiting. The world should know about the resistance and the deportations. I did particularly enjoy the interactive part of the museum where you could sit in the recreated living room and read the books and pick things up and...

Interesting and moving museum covering the history and individual stories of the resistance movements, deportations/the Holocaust and life under Vichy France. Free entry and very much worth visiting while exploring Toulouse and the region. A map of related sites in the area is available online.

À l’occasion de la journée du patrimoine, nous avons pu visiter ce magnifique musée. Une exposition spéciale Joséphine Baker y été également présentée (voir photos ci-dessous) De magnifique pièces venues d’autres musées via des emprunts, une belle découverte sur la vie de cette grande et belle femme… Des audios et écrits sont mit à disposition. Le premier étage est consacré à la Guerre Mondiale, avec beaucoup de pièces issues du passé, le devoir de mémoire étant important, certaines étaient dures à regarder…

Concernant les employés, ils sont tous passionnés et connaissent très bien leurs sujets. L’accueil était parfait, à l’entrée était apposé de nombreux petits fascicules en libre service.
