The castle is big and we'll preserved. It resides on the hill of the sandstone that was used to build the castle. The walk from parking place uphill is spectacular with rock outcrops and walls growing from them. The tallest tower was build at 11th century and the castle was growing around it. The view from the tower and wall is magnificent. The ascend to the tower is exciting, but you should be well fit to climb all the stairs to the top. There is no lift. The main palace was well restored in 19th century in the German Gothic Revival. There is a descent collection of the middle age armor, restored interiors. I liked stained glass. The weddings going on on the weekends, so some of halls may be not be available for taking pictures, but you can still take a look. There are lifts for people with wheel chairs. Do not miss the historical collection of old coins that were minted in the castle in 16-17 centuries, old manuscripts and gold cup from the bronze age that was found not far from the castle. The small church houses the oldest stone crucifix in the North Europe. Reserve 1,5-2 hours or more for walking, climbing and just sitting and enjoying the history around you. The parking place is big and camping vans could be parked. The price 6 euro per day for car and 9 for camper. There is just 1 parking machine near the entrance. The buttons respond weakly and its slow. However, you can switch language to Dutch and English and even pay by card. I have done it with little help from some kind German family. After payment gone, leave the printed ticket on the dashboard of your car so you are not fined. Note that inside the castle the information is duplicated in German and Dutch. No English. The tickets to the castle are sold at the entrance either from the cashier or ticket machine (menu is German).

Very nice, authentic castle to spend a few hours exploring and enjoying the view, as well as for getting some coffee with a snack. Admission of 5€ well worth it. Especially the chapel is extremely impressive given that the floor seems to be the original from the 1600s, many original woodworks are still in place. It feels like travelling back in time to when life was still completely different from what it is now, moreso than with some castles you can find in France. I had not at all anticipated the impressiveness of th burg and it's surrounding village, given the rather unimpressive surroundings and the stereotype of this area of Germany.

Nice castle to walk through. Some signs were in English which was good. The art museum part had some "interesting(disturbing)" art. We kept finding more and more places to discover. I really liked all the stain glass in the main castle part, that we thought was a church that was part of the castle and were surprised to find it was the family living quarters. I liked the genealogy tree they had on display. There many fun carvings at the base of the columns and other interesting finds. Not my favorite castle I've visited, but a good one for just 5€.

Very cool little gem of a castle. Only 5 eur to enter and worth every cent! Big castle mostly all open and explorable without much of the usual tourist barriers etc. Can go crawling through (very) narrow staircases up to the top of the tower and down into the dungeon. Has numerous good props etc. The main residence itself is especially interesting having been restored in intricate detail throughout. Worth it to walk around the castle from the outside as well to get a sense of the scale of the building.

For a fan of Castles it might not be as impressive as others, but if it's your first Castle ever then it is definitely worth the visit. It's also a niche place to go with family or to take kids. My recommendation would be to go in Spring or Summer, I've been here twice, both times in Winter and I can say I'd have enjoyed it even more with a better weather, less cold, less windy and with out the rain. Even though the weather might have not been the best, the visit was definitely worth it.

It's such a beautiful place! Like a photo from the Medieval Ages that you crawl into. You can see the prosperity some distinguished members of the society lived in accompanied by the cruel side of humanity... I was fascinated by the history here. Thanks to Badbentheim community who preserved the history in such a nice way. Some visitors were respectless writing their worthless names on valuable walls of history, but it doesn't affect the feeling that you get from the place.
