The park covers approximately 78 hectares (190 acres).[1] Together with Goethepark, which is located immediately south-east of the park, the total park landscape is approximately 115 hectares (280 acres). Meine Oma wohnte gegenüber dem Haupteingang des Volksparks Rehberge, in der Afrikanischen Straße, Berlin-Wedding. Dort war ich bis zu Ihrem Tod vor 20 Jahren sehr oft und dann natürlich immer auch im Park spielen, spazieren mit und später dann auch ohne Hund, stattdessen mit Freund. Schon meine Mutter war ab den 1939er Jahren als Kind in den "Rehbergen" unterwegs. Wir kennen den Park also sehr gut. Heute nun, nach 20 Jahren, habe ich mit ihr einen Ausflug dorthin unternommen und bei herrlichem Wetter in Erinnerungen geschwelgt. Sofort als wir den Park betraten waren wir begeistert von der üppigen Vegetation, die sich dort in der vergangenen Zeit wohl vervielfacht hat. Der lange Ententeich ist noch da, auch einige in dichtem Baum- und Buschwerk eingebettete Sportfelder für Tennis, Fußball (sogar mit Flutlichtanlage) u.a.. Auf einem Feld spielten zwei Mannschaften Frisbee, war toll. Dann öffnet sich das Grün und du erblickt Liegewiesen oder freie Grünflächen zur individuellen Nutzung. Viele Familien waren dort unterwegs, mit und ohne Hund, ein Pärchen sogar mit ihrer Katze und Radfahrer waren ebenfalls einige unterwegs. Das Gelände ist sehr groß, hat aber diverse Eingänge, wer Interesse hat, kann sich das über Googel ja genauer betrachten. Die Wege sind gut belaufbar, Bänke zum Verweilen gibt es tatsächlich auch. Eine kleine Gaststätte mit G3 Regeln ist vorhanden. Früher gab es noch den "Tanzring", das war ein kleiner Platz mit steinernen Sitzplätzen, an den sich die Jugendlichen getroffen haben. Der lag ein bisschen versteckt und war deshalb sehr begehrt... Ob es den noch gibt, haben wir nicht mehr erkunden können, irgendwann waren unsere Batterien dann leer, aber meine Mom, 88 Jahre, hat prima durchgehalten bei unserem Erinnerungsspaziergang. Also, wer gerne ausgiebig im Grünen spazieren geht, oder etwas sportliche Freizeit gestalten will, oder einfach nur auf der Wiese chillen möchte, der sollte dies mal im Volkspark Rehberge versuchen.
