Delfinarium Zoo Duisburg — Attraction in Duisburg

Duisburg Zoo is a haven for nature lovers and families alike. As soon as you step through its gates, you're transported into a world of captivating wildlife and lush greenery. From majestic lions to playful otters, the zoo boasts a diverse array of animals from around the globe.

One of the highlights of my visit was the dolphin show, where these intelligent creatures dazzled the audience with their acrobatic feats. However, I couldn't shake off a nagging concern about the welfare of these magnificent creatures in captivity. While the show was entertaining, I couldn't help but wonder if dolphins truly belong in tanks rather than the vast expanse of the ocean.

On a brighter note, the zoo's enclosures are well-maintained, providing ample space and enrichment for the animals. It's evident that the staff genuinely care about the well-being of the residents, and educational programs are available to raise awareness about conservation efforts.

The botanical gardens within the zoo are a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, offering a tranquil atmosphere to unwind and appreciate the beauty of nature. One of the main attraction of Duisburg Zoo is the Delfinarium (for Dolphin show). There is no separate ticket for entering Delfinarium and is included in the Zoo ticket. Infact, there is no one to check your ticket as well and you can watch all shows of the day. Generally there are 3 shows everyday, sometimes number of shows are increased by 1 or 2.

The show lasts 40-45 minutes, but to get a better place, one should get in there 15-20 minutes before the show starts. Before the show starts, one can have a closure look at Dolphins in the pool from the walking ramp with glass walls of the pool. Once the show starts, jaws easily gets dropped by the actions performed by Dolphins. Front seaters (two rows) are drenched with water splashed by Dolphins as the last activity before they return to deep waters.

Een mooie natuurlijke stadsdierentuin in Duisburg dat stelselmatig aan het vernieuwen is van zijn verblijven. Wij hadden ons geparkeerd op parking 2 waardoor je tijdens de winterperiode nog een goed 800m moet wandelen voor de ingang te bereiken omdat de ingang aan die parking dan gesloten is. Jammer maar dat maakt opzich niet uit, je bent hierdoor wel na je bezoek snel terug op de snelweg en komt hierdoor ook geen milieuzone binnen. We hebben immers niet voor de parking moeten betalen.

Eens dat je aankomt in het park wordt je ticket gelijk gescand door een medewerker mits je dat online hebt gekocht. Ik kan aanraden om dit ook online te kopen om een wachtrij te vermijden aan de kassa. Je krijgt een parkplan of je kan deze ook scannen via een QR code zo dat je hem op je smartphone hebt.

De verblijven zien er mooi uit, hier en daar zijn sommigen verblijven verouderd maar dat was nauwelijks nog te merken want de meeste verblijven worden vernieuwd. Alle dieren zien er gelukkig uit en vertonen ook geen ijsbeergedrag wat goed is. Het park is verdeeld in twee stukken omdat er midden door de dierentuin een treinspoor en een snelweg loopt wat best apart is maar tijdens je bezoek merk je er weinig tot niets van.

De uitleg over de dieren is ook in het Nederlands door steeds een QR code te scannen op een uitlegbordje.

De horeca is prima maar je moet geen restaurant verwachten waar je uitgebreid kan eten. De meeste horeca plaatsen kan je frietjes eten, een snack en een drankje dat een zéér beperkte keuze hebt. Maar door de zéér beperkte keuze ben je zéér snel bediend. Je kan betalen met de bankkaart als cash maar raad aan om voldoende cash mee te nemen.

De dolfijnen show is de moeite waard, op drukke dagen raad ik aan om zeker een uur op voorhand te gaan want de plaatsen zijn beperkt. Informeer voor dat je het park binnenwandelt wanneer de dolfijnen shows plaatsvinden en waar de locatie zich bevindt. De uitleg tijdens de show is in het Duits maar dat maakt niet uit voor zo'n mooie show.

De voedermomenten hadden we ook opgezocht, het waren er niet veel maar we wouden er toch twee meepikken. Geen enkele van die twee is er iemand geweest om het voedermoment te doen. Jammer.

We komen zeker eens terug want alleen al voor de dolfijnen show is het de moeite om het te komen. Nadien kan je bezoek nog naar bijvoorbeeld Westfield Centro dat 20 minuten er...
