I am deeply disappointed and concerned by the ongoing silence from Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim regarding the rightful return of the Renaissance ring once belonging to King Sigismund I of Poland. This artifact, looted by Germans during World War II, is not just a piece of jewelry — it is a priceless symbol of Polish heritage and history.

Despite formal restitution efforts initiated by the Polish Ministry of Culture, the museum has failed to respond for months. This lack of transparency and cooperation is unacceptable, especially from a public institution that should uphold ethical standards and...

The museum displays artefacts stolen by Germans in Poland during World War II. These items weren’t acquired-they were looted while entire cities were razed, and millions of Poles were murdered.

To then exhibit them as cultural treasures, without shame or restitution, is not just unethical-it’s grotesque. It reflects a disturbing pride in theft committed during genocide.

Germany still has a long way to go in reckoning with the full extent of its crimes in Poland. Until they are returned the artifacts remain trophies of violence and barbarism....

Pforzheim ist untrennbar mit der Schmuckherstellung verbunden. Das Schmuckmuseum befindet sich im denkmalgeschützten, und auch architektonisch hochinteressanten, Reuchlinhaus aus dem Jahr 1961. Es präsentiert, als weltweit einziges Haus seiner Art, Schmuckstücke aus 5 Jahrtausenden. Ein Online-Museum erweitert das Angebot.

Die Präsentation der einzelnen Ausstellungen ist geschmackvoll und gut ausgeleuchtet. In anderen Teilen werden auch die technischen Aspekte der Schmuckherstellung vorgestellt. Wer noch mehr darüber erfahren will, kann mittels eines Kombitickets auch das, wenige Gehminuten entfernt am anderen des Stadtgartens gelegene, Technische Museum der Pforzheimer Schmuck- und Uhrenindustrie besuchen.

Sehr störend ist bei unserem Besuch im Juli die Geräuschkulisse: Im Foyer des Hauses findet offenbar ein Geburtstagsempfang statt. Die Musik der Band, aber auch die Reden der Laudatoren, sind aufgrund der Bauweise im gesamten Haus zu hören. Auf Dauer eine akustische Zumutung für unsere Dreiergruppe, die unseren Besuch erheblich verkürzt.

Fazit: Die ganze Bandbreite des Schmucks in einem Haus, mit problematischen Rahmenbedingungen.
