We have eaten at The Whitaker numerous times in the past and the food has been exceptional. A change in cheif has not resulted in the same quality being maintained. Unfortunately, the quality of service has also dropped. One of our party had an allergy and we were the chosen dish was okay but after pressing we were then told it was not. These mistakes should not happen. The food was nothing average but not outstanding as it use to be. My meal was covered in sea salt, so much so I could not eat more than half. We were not asked if everything was okay and when we did get service and I pointed it out, the others had finished and the table was simply cleared. We did not get offered deserts or more drinks and I sat and waited for 15 minutes to get the bill.
None of the items on the menu marked vegan were actually vegan and the managers response to being told all of this was, "not much I can do now but we have a new menu coming next week.

We go to terrace which has round wooden table/chairs and closed parasols. I enter restaurant an ask is the terrace the place with wooden table were we sit with dogs. They reply " sorry the terrace is closed today " I say " so your NOT dog friendly " She answers " we can't open the canopy as it's Raining !! I reply " so we can't eat , as the canopy to stop the rain can't be opened due to it raining.... so, You are Not dog friendly " !!!! She said " we are dog friendly but it's raining ' . So basically .... you Don't allow dogs IN the restaurant and you Don't allow anyone outside if it's raining.... so your only 'fairweather' dog friendly.... Read moreSince I last reviewed this park it has had a lot of work to maintain the pathways, new tennis courts (pre-book at £6 an hour! Or let yourself in for free.) and the front gardens are really nice to look at.
It still needs some work in the top park but this is planned works that will be dealt with in time.
There is a Museum, a restaurant where you can eat inside or out. Toilets are within the Museum grounds so you have to enter via the Main entrance.
Please note: Dogs MUST be kept on lead when in the lower park, around the Park Gardens, the Car Parks, the Tennis Court and Bowling Green areas. Simply keep your dog under control and don't let it bother other dog walkers who have theirs on lead. You can let your dog run free in the upper park as long as it is not bothering...
