Rawtenstall railway station, is one of the best kept, brilliantly restored, most imposingly preserved stations I've ever visited, It's the upmost yet excellent northern terminus of the east lancashire railway that I've also had the pleasure in riding along en-route by train to rawtenstall out there, From what was once a 'through station' towards bacup, but is now a 'station terminus' of the enterprisingly lavish yet ever so resplendent east lancashire railway... Rawtenstall is a fellow 'one-of-a-kind' destination with more than a story to tell. Also took photos of this resplendent rly station that's also a jewel in the crown of the ELR too.

The railway station itself is a great bit of local history. It is like stepping back in time. We were lucky as we saw a train coming in, I've never seen one run on coal before! The lovely stewardess let me onboard to take a photo of the inside of a carriage. The driver was having a few photos with kids, careful not to let them near the coal burner. Great experience

Great journey on a steam train, kids and adults were all excited to be on it. Staff were great and interacted with the kids and even recovered my car keys which I dropped. We'll worth the experience. 😁

Very sad to have to have to leave a 1 star review, traveled 100 miles (200 round trip) to visit this line, one of many we have toured over the last few years. On our visit there was no parking whatsoever at or near Bury station, very poor as this was the starting point for our green timetable, main stating point with ample parking was shut for this timetable. Missed first train as had to walk miles so was not able to take full advantage of all day travel either so poor value, Worst however was that not one of the 3 souvenir shops were open, seriously, on running days nowhere to buy ANYTHING, not even a magnet? We collect DPS station magnets and other items from all lines like this as a memento and record of our visits and this is the ONLY line now from which we have nothing , they were in the shop window market open on the door but shop was closed + parking sign pointing wrong way ( i have pictures of both). Shows a total lack of interest from those concerned. Really poor experience, no souvenirs of our trip sadly will not...

Had a great time! 100% recommend

On a whim a group of us decided to go ride one the steam trains; this was my first time riding on a steam train and I was not disappointed one bit.

It was a great return trip with beautiful views and I'm so glad to of done it. I took my camera with me and manage to get some beautiful scenic shots at well as some great ones of the train itself.

I would definitely recommend this place for anyone of any age to go to; there are gift shops along the way as well as heated waiting rooms for the days where it's a bit too chilly to wait on the platform.

The staff were friendly and polite. There's plenty of room for seating around the tables so families could happily and comfortably sit together. I would say it may be a little bit awkward if you had a pram though and you would need to collapse it before you got on the train if you...

We had their Red Rose dining with distinction train ride and 4 course meal. This is our 2nd time and it was lovely. We went a bit later in year this time so didn't get to see much out of the window as it went dark by the time we left the station. Meal was delicious. Server's worked very hard to get everyone's meal to them quickly. I think last year's outing felt more special. There had been a chap who seemed to be in charge and he was always around, he was very nice and pleasant. This time not so much personal attention. Everyone was nice and I got the impression the lady who did the drinks might have been in charge. No one just walked around checking everything was ok. I don't mean I want someone asking me every 2 minutes if it's ok but if I want a drink or ask a question I would like someone to be nearby who was watching out for anyone who might ...
