St. Mary's Church Wismar — Attraction in Wismar

This tower in Wismar has a very beautiful view over the city centre and harbour. It's possible to see it only as a part of group tour. The group tours happen at the each full hour and cost 3 euros per person. The visit time is around 45 to 60 minutes and happens with guide and group. The stories told by guide take around half of the tour time, rest is used for climbing and taking pictures. It's rather not for English speaking people only, as the guide speaks only German. Interesting place of historical significance.

However, don't expect to be able to go on the tour in the tower unless you speak German. We were denied by the cashier and told to go to the close by church instead for a view, because the tour at St Marienkirche wasn't available in English and would take an hour. It didn't matter to us, but she said no. Very disappointed as the inside of the tower and the view was the thing that drew us there, but now we couldn't see it. It was only €3 but it's very frustrating when it's not available...

Von der einst schönsten Backsteinarchitektur Kirche Sankt Marien nach Lübecker Vorbild aus der Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts ist nur noch der ca. 80 m hohe Kirchturm übrig geblieben. Im 2. Weltkrieg wurde die Marienkirche so stark beschädigt, das das Kirchenschiff abgetragen wurde. Trotz einiger protestierender Stimmen aus der Bevölkerung. Es werden in der Saison Turmführungen angeboten, von dort oben bekommt man erst den Überblick wie groß die Kirche einst war. Im Glockenturm befinden sich 13 Glocken, die älteste wurde in der Mitte des 14.Jahrhunderts gegossen.Um 12:00, 15:00 und 19:00 Uhr meldet sich ein Glockenspiel der 14 Choräle erklingen lässt.Zu dieser Zeit ist der Kirchenvorplatz gut besucht und alle lauschen dem Glockenspiel. Am Turm befindet sich eine riesige 5 Meter im Durchmesser große Turmuhr, die auch noch von weitem gut sichtbar ist. Im Anschluß an die Turmführung wird ein 12 minütiger 3D Film gezeigt.
