The market place of Accra. A bit too crowdy. You have to be careful enough with your belongings and self. But you get almost everything you need for your home at a reasonable rate.It is really hard to capture Makola Market's spirit in writing - you just have to go there. This huge market is combined of main streets and back allies. I enjoyed walking in the place. very particular and learned so many things about the daily lives and food habits of people in Ghana. If you love culture, you'll like the place.

If you want to have an authentic experience in Accra this market is the place to be! Very chaotic and busy but worth it if you go early and avoid the midday heat. Enjoy a bit of bargaining and negotiating with the local traders. At this market they won't rip you off as its too busy to bother.

Opened market with just about everything from clothing, shoes, food, jewelry, cosmetics, electronics, etc. The down side is the the market is not very organized or compartmentalized. One has to walk long distances looking for goods and you just can't be sure where to find stuff.

There are different meaning to the name 'Makola'. The Ga tribe says, Makola simply means, someone's singing. I guess that makes a lot of sense if you've ever visited that part of Accra.

It's one of the biggest retail/wholesale market place for locals living within and beyond Accra. It's not like your regular big Costco or Walmart but I can assure you that, everything you can find in Costco can be found at the Makola market. And the price is even cheaper at Makola Market,.

If you think the car dealership in Europe or Americas are big bargainers, you probably haven't been to Makola Market. Everything is negotiable. I mean everything!!! however, don't be too comfortable negotiating for products if you're not ready to buy them. There are no price tags or fixed price for an Item at Mmakola Market. The traders believe in one thing, and that's ... to push and push for buyers to buy from them. When you ask for a price of an item, the traders expects you to buy them. It's Ok to walk, away and just say NO. I'm just curious about the price....

Don't feel guilty if your pocket gets picked! (just kidding! ) but yes!, there are petty theft all over the market, just like in China,. If you've ever been to China's retail/wholesale Market in Guangzhou.

You cannot get too comfortable in a store and leave your baggy unattended,.Do not leave your phone or wallet in plain sight, carry so much money and always go with a local. And PLEASE don't get too irate when people touch you to get your attention, it's a common thing in Ghana for people to grab your hands BUT nobody does that in any sexual way... It's part of the culture.

Guess I will leave it here and say !...

This is just like the popular Balogun market in Lagos Nigeria. You can get almost any product you need from the market at different sections. Going there as a tourist, got a lot of beautiful African price of materials as well as products like bangles, earrings, bags etc that had the prints. They have areas that sell foodstuffs, provisions, etc. You better try to wear flat shoes when you go there as the journey is long. Stay vigilant because you might miss your way going back the way you came. Also you may need a hat or shades as it was really hot when I visited. You also need to...
