The Accra Children's Park became Afua Sutherland Children's Park in the 1980s. The Ministry involved with children's affairs saw it right to attach Afua Sutherland's name to the Accra Children's Park so as to bring in international interest. She wrote books on children's affairs and that was a deserving honour. The Park's environment stars just after the Offices of the Ghana Wild Life Society (GWS) thus Accra Conservation Education Center, A.G. Leventi's Library and Swiss Hall; which is also directly opposite Ecobank Head Office and being across the Independence Avenue Road. The Afua Sutherland Children's Park stretches up to and alongside the Liberian Road, opposite the National Theatre being directly across the road. The Park has a lot of tall trees and some green bushes. There are lorry tyres in four (4) and fives (5) on top of each other purposely for games. There are iron erected structures for swinging (see-saw) and seating benches. The walls of the park are partly blocks and partly metal rails. Standing outside and getting to the mid-portion of stretch of wall, I can see the Ecobank Head Office, Heritage Tower, World Trade Center and top of Cedi House. Inside the Children's Park there is a big Oval rail line with a Train Head on it. There are two (2) coaches separated from the head and far behind on line. There are Rollers and a long Van Trailer. There are Offices at a portion of of the park . A recent building structure of fewer rooms below lintel level. There are many Nim trees and many open playing spaces. There is a Park View Cafe that handles the following services; Dinning, Take Away, Orders for Occasions, Orders for Companies and Place Rental. Continental Dishes:- Fried rice, Jollof rice, Plain rice, Potato chips and Yam chips. There are Pastries:- Meat pie, Spring roll, Cup Cake and Rocked. There is a lengthy Bus Stop in the fore front and the Park also lies behind Kempinski Hotel. The Afua Sutherland Children's Park managers have more spaces for children's play or educational...
Read moreThe location of this park is great, in the middle of the city. I have heard the park is owned by the government and maybe they don't want this place to be a nice park or playground.
Although maintenance of the park is completely and then I mean completely neglected it is still not a nasty place to be.
The park is an oase of fresh air and quitenes because of the large area with trees,. Instead of spending money on Toyota Hiluxe, with a few ten thousands dollars you can make something of it.
The entrance is hard to find, at the Kempinsky hotel.
I did not see any working playground item in the park.
Very sad that this "playground" that could be easily made way bettert then playgrounds of the malls is (purposely?) getting worse and worse because of a complete lack of any maintenance or investment.
Just waiting for the bad news a nice green area in Accra central is sold to a real estate company in which some MP's...
Read more"I had an absolute blast playing paintball at the Efua Sutherland Children's Park in Accra! The paintball arena was well-designed and had plenty of obstacles and hiding spots to make the game more exciting. The equipment provided was in great condition and the staff were very helpful in explaining the rules and ensuring that everyone played safely. The pricing was very reasonable and it was great value for money considering the amount of fun I had. Overall, I highly recommend the paintball arena at the Efua Sutherland Children's Park for anyone looking for an exciting and adrenaline-fueled...
