I had the absolute pleasure of dining at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra during my recent stay, and I must say, it was an extraordinary culinary experience! From the moment I entered, the lavish spread of vibrant and diverse dishes caught my eye. The meticulous presentation of each dish set the tone for a delightful gastronomic adventure. The crispy fried seafood platter was a revelation, perfectly paired with a rich tartar sauce, while the rice cooked to perfection accompanied the meal with a delightful balance of flavor. The standout dish for me was the succulent and tender beef stew, draped in a deeply flavorful sauce and garnished with fresh, crisp vegetables. It was simply divine and melted in my mouth with every bite. The attention to detail and care in preparation truly shone through. The salad bar was equally impressive, offering a colorful array of fresh vegetables and creative salads, from the creamy chicken to the zesty fish salad, providing something for every palate. And for dessert, the sweet banana tart and the fluffy, beautifully garnished strawberry mousse were the perfect finale to an exquisite meal. The quality of the food and the warmth of the service left a lasting impression. Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel has set a high bar for culinary excellence in Accra, and I can't wait to return. Highly recommended!

Möventec Ambassador Hotel: Five Stars With a Few Dim Spots We recently spent four nights at the Möventec Ambassador Hotel in Accra, drawn by its five-star status and the promise of an exceptional experience. Let’s say, in short, it’s the “almost” five-star experience that keeps you entertained (though not always in the way you’d hope)! The Good: The location is prime, truly central to all the best Accra has to offer. And the hotel itself ticks all the boxes when it comes to amenities—gym, pool, and dining options. The Less Good: It appears time has been a persistent guest here too. The hotel’s age (13 years) shows up in quirky ways—like a shower glass wall that cracks so loudly it could double as a drum kit for a midnight jam session. We assumed these quirks would be noticed by staff, but they seem to have settled in like old friends. Concierge Service? Surprisingly absent. In a five-star hotel, especially in a city where many travelers are exploring for the first time, a concierge is essential. Here, you’re on your own, which can be a bit daunting if you’re new to the local scene. Service (or the Lack Thereof): Service is an adventure all its own. Need fresh towels? A minor quest requiring 3-4 calls and a bit of faith. Got a room issue, like our eternally warm 24°C climate control? Prepare to meet the hotel technician, who will visit with great frequency but little success. And be sure to brace yourself at checkout, where the airport transfer cost may vary depending on… well, no one’s quite sure why. A debate about the fluctuating transfer fee was met with baffled faces at the reception desk. Organizational structure? Let’s say, it’s fluid. Breakfast, With a Side of Surprises: Breakfast was included, but we missed it on multiple mornings. We also had a friend join us for coffee, which promptly landed him a bill for a full breakfast (we had Breakfast included). A touch of leniency would have been appreciated, especially after the… memorable experiences. A Luxury Ride… or Is It? Here’s a highlight: one evening, needing a ride to a nearby restaurant just 5-10 minutes away, we asked the hotel for help. They offered a car… for $60. Each way. Yes, $120 round-trip for what turned out to be a $2 Uber. Even renting a driver for the whole day wouldn’t set you back that much. We couldn’t help but feel the “luxury” here was in the creative pricing strategy. All in all, Möventec Ambassador has plenty of promise. It’s just missing the polish.

5* hotel, 3* experience The hotel is centrally located and has a beautiful pool which are the two best things about it. The gym is also large, well equipped and has a great view over the pool. Otherwise the hotel is sub par and over priced for what it is. I would not stay again, the Marriott is much nicer. Pros - Pool is large and pretty - The staff were so lovely - the staff patrolling the floor and the cleaning staff were were so friendly and helpful - I was allowed a late check out which really helped me truly relax - The TV has a lot of channels - The welcome drink was tasty Cons - Check in was slow and the staff seemed stressed - The hotel is dated. It is about 11 years old but felt older - the carpets smelt damp, the room was dated and tired and there was black mould in the bathroom - The toilet was leaking and making noise - The room wasn’t clean - the phone was so dirty and the room was so dusty I kept sneezing - The apples provided in the room were old and bruised - The breakfast was weird- a strange array of items and not very tasty - The pool needed someone to strain the bugs out of it - The decor is soulless and uninspired and a bit dull - They wouldn’t let me pay with apple pay - they insisted I use a physical card but I had lost my purse and didn’t have one. I offered to show the card on the app as my bank does not provide physical cards. It’s silly that in 2023 they don’t accept app payments. - Staff at the pool would only provide one towel. For the price of a room I should be able to get more than one towel - The staff member at the gym was not helpful - he didn’t even try to offer help but I had to approach him for help. He was too busy working out

First time staying in a Mövenpick, we enjoyed our stay overall in a safe, clean environment. The booking was not cheap, but you are limited on decent hotels in Accra. Some things to note: - front desk were helpful to a point but one day they told me incorrect information - chocolate hour was sadly a waste of the time, which given that it’s such a big thing for Ghana seemed really minimal - upon checking in we weren’t asked to provide a credit card for a deposit for extras, so when we had drinks by the pool they hounded us throughout the day to go and pay what we’d had - not very 5* ! The airport shuttle was very handy although upon arrival we were put in a cafe/bar not knowing how long we were going to stay and ended up buying drinks. The rooms themselves look fairly worn and tired, could do with some upgrades.

Based in the center of Accra a stones throw away from makola main market and national theatre. A real hub of a location with very easy to connect to other locations. The real winner for this hotel is the fantastic staff service. From the lovely chiefs to the attendants to the cleaners to the security people who all were so welcoming. The FOOD AT THIS PLACE IS DIVINE the west Africa food cooked and served here is top notch and I would come back to Ghana to sample it all again. Definitely a lovely stay with access to a long pool and tennis courts to use if you contact reception. Loved my stay here with to come back. Would ask for ventilation system to be checked in all rooms as AC not as strong and faint hint of some mould which was unpleasant at times

The hotel itself is pretty good, clean, nice bathroom, wide and comfortable bed, polite staff, complementary breakfast buffet, transportation shuttle from and to the airport. My complaint is that housekeeping is very noisy, and they work 24/7. I'm a light sleeper so that was a big problem for me. I hear furniture being dragged at 2am or 3am and it is so loud you feel like it's in your room. Woke me up every single night at least twice and I couldn't go back to sleep. So the 3 nights I spent there were pretty rough. However since I was on business I just wanted to finish what I came to do and leave. Called the customer service explained the situation so I hope they'll do something about it (will try and upload a video of the housekeeping sounds).
