I have been returning to Nei Pori with some breaks for almost 14 years, and the situation with this beach has worsened over the last few years. This year, it is a complete disaster.
Let me put it straight: this beach is overcrowded. It is not normally overcrowded, but it is overcrowded overcrowded. It is completely cramped.
The separation among sunbeds is minimal and can please only people whose intimate zone buffer is below 30 cm. This does not match with recently imported Balkan culture, which includes phenomena such as stranger kids sitting on your sunbed spilling sand on your head as a new standard.
Furthermore, there are a lot of people who don't use the sunbed rental and bring their own blankets and umbrellas. They put their blankets without dignity everywhere near the coastline, obstructing others from entering the sea. You have to dodge blankets and sunbathing bodies to get into the water. Ridiculous.
The sea itself is lovely, the entrance is not steep, and it is suitable for small kids to learn how to swim. However, the density of people in the water is enormous, and there is nowhere to swim unless you want to swim away from the coast, which is obviously wholly incompatible with small kids. Yet, many people consider playing volleyball over the heads of tens of people in the water possible, resulting in the ball hitting your head surprisingly several times per sea visit.
This place has definitely lost all...
Read moreThe good: sandy beach shallow entrance in water. wide beach The bad really crowded. In central area only chairs and umbrellas, no place even to walk .. crowded even with camps of children I think there is great viral load in the water - our group ended up vomiting (surely not food related) and I saw other children vomiting in the street. Lots of doctor places here so it makes me wonder. Saw at pharmacy people getting eye drops for conjunctivitis (could be adenovirus or worse in the water) If something happens to you I encourage you to write to health authorities for them to check viral counts in the water. As far as I know only bacterial loads are checked. I already wrote. not a clean beach. Lots of garbage, we even saw a dirty diaper. I know it is the tourists fault but more...
Read moreAll those years my opinion for Katerini area was underrated. My last visit I have change my opinion especially for Neoi Poroi area has changed. Very organised , crystal clear waters and beautiful sandy beaches. Small hotels with very reasonable prices, plethora of restaurants and fast food places. My recommendation is the "bukovo" restaurant . A must is a visit to the old traditional village of Agios Panteleimonas , a 20 minute drive up in the mountain for a spectacular view of the hole area. Recommendation: don't visit night time because the road has lots of tight turns and the village is not lit properly. For night life Platamonas is the...
