What a lovely place! The visit started with a free tour of the site with lots of interesting facts about olive trees and the process of olive oil making. Then we were shown to the 'tasting area' which showcased the most impressive spread of olive oils, from chili to lemon, basil, garlic, truffle and chocolate infused oils (and many more), to lots of different types of marinated olives, cakes, biscuits, breads, and other little nibbles.
The two hostesses were absolutely lovely, very generous and overall very kind and friendly. The amount of nibbles you can sample (for free) is absolutely incredible. As we didn't have lunch on that day we ended up ordering some drinks and a cheese platter from the café. Everything was scrumptious, including the olive oil ice cream which I a bit sceptical about to start with but wanted to try as I was intrigued. The ice cream came with little pots of oil you can pour over the ice cream, which I know sounds strange, but it ended up being really delicious. We picked chili, chocolate and basil infused oils. All worked well with the ice cream. I also ordered a cocktail which was better than at most cocktail places I've been to (which is a lot).
The ladies joked that everything there was made with love. Well, let me tell you that you could definitely taste the love in everything. There is a lovely little garden outside with lots of olive trees where you can enjoy your order whilst enjoying the serene scenery.
You can also buy some of the produce from the boutique, including some of the oils, olive spreads, local wine, some olive wood dishes and other bits and bobs like olive derived skincare. Would definitely recommend.
If you only do one thing in Naxos, then this needs to be it. The taxi ride from the port is only 20EUR so even if you don't have a car it is still easily accessible (and worth the 40EUR fare for the round trip, given that the tour and tasting...

We paid them a visit on 24 August, during our holiday on Naxos. Our family of four received a very warm welcome from the owner (whose name unfortunately I can’t remember at the moment) and her staff. The property has belonged to her family for many generations. She shared with us her family story of the place - truly captivating. Our guide, Spiros, an impressive young man, gave us an outstanding, engaging and fun tour. We learnt so much from him about how olive oil used to be made on the island, the many varieties of olives and some agricultural history of the island. We were then invited to sample many different types of olives, herb and chocolate infused olive oils and even olive oil beauty products. That was fun and delicious!
We had a wonderful time there, and can’t recommend it enough, so much so that we forgot about the passing of time while indulging in a peaceful atmosphere in their garden, eating a delicious home made olive oil cake and ice cream and sipping the best fresh lemonade we’ve ever had! Thank you to the whole team for being so hospitable and kind. We hope to come back to you soon.
Do not hesitate to visit this fantastic place, with its shop and cafe. The team of people who run it are true enthusiasts and very passionate about it. If still in doubt, visit their impressive website to see what a great...
Read moreWe visited Eggares with the intention of exploring the local museum. After seeing a roadside banner, we parked nearby — but there were no signs indicating where the museum actually was. We ended up wandering through the village, which, while quaint, offered very little in terms of amenities — not even a café open during the day.
Eventually, with the help of GPS, we found the museum located behind the church, but it was closed with no clear hours posted. The small shop next to it had also just shut its lights as we approached.
To our surprise, we later found a paper bag left on our car, scolding us for parking “in a private space” — though there was no signage whatsoever to indicate that.
When I called the museum for clarification, the woman who answered was unfortunately very rude and confrontational, rather than helpful or polite. We had every intention of visiting and supporting the place, but after that conversation, we chose to visit a different olive press in Naxos instead — where we were warmly welcomed.
A real shame, as this could have been a much more pleasant experience with better signage, organization, and...
