Kato Zakros beach — Attraction in Municipality of Sitia

I shall never forget this place on Earth. I'd driven until I could not drive anymore, up from Matala and her leper caves and Joni Mitchell tales, up along the coast, up through Vai, and seemingly, the road unspooled over a mountain pass and descended into this tiny thatch of small buildings that were more California surf bungalows than Grecian structures. And so I stayed, exhausted and slept the sleep of the dead. Not far from the Gorge of the Dead. Three days and nights passed, as cats luxuriated around the sleepy town that time forgot. And the Ratki flowed and the time stood still and I greeted every new dawn, photographing a sun that seemed brighter, warmer, more inviting than the sun I'd left behind in New Jersey. But after I slept through a 6.7 Richter Scale Earthquake, I began to question my sanity. One good shake and one misfallen boulder sealing off the only road in and out and I'd be eating cats along with the other trapped pleasure zombies. It's a thin line between bliss and paralysis. Nice stone beach with few visitors. There are restaurants on the left. There are also loungers and umbrellas down on the beach. Unfortunately, I don't know how expensive these are because we were on the right on the beach under the trees. In the evening you can snorkel here very well and watch the fish hunting. 5-Αστέρη Κριτική για το Σπήλαιο Πελεκητών – Ένα Ανεξερεύνητο Θαύμα της Ανατολικής Κρήτης

Το Σπήλαιο Πελεκητών, κρυμμένο στους απόκρημνους βράχους νότια της Κάτω Ζάκρου, είναι ένας πραγματικός θησαυρός για τους λάτρεις της φύσης, της ιστορίας και της εξερεύνησης. Η επίσκεψή μας σε αυτό το εντυπωσιακό γεωλογικό και αρχαιολογικό μνημείο ήταν μια εμπειρία που ξεπέρασε κάθε προσδοκία και αξίζει χωρίς αμφιβολία πέντε αστέρια.

Η διαδρομή προς το σπήλαιο είναι από μόνη της μαγευτική: ένα όμορφο μονοπάτι πάνω από τη θάλασσα, με καταπληκτική θέα στο Λιβυκό Πέλαγος και στους βραχώδεις σχηματισμούς της περιοχής. Η προσέγγιση απαιτεί λίγη πεζοπορία, αλλά η φυσική ομορφιά και η απομόνωση της διαδρομής την καθιστούν απολαυστική και ιδανική για όσους αναζητούν μια αυθεντική εμπειρία.

Το ίδιο το σπήλαιο εντυπωσιάζει με το μέγεθος και τη δομή του. Φέρει το όνομα "Πελεκητών" λόγω των λαξευμένων πετρωμάτων στο εσωτερικό του, τα οποία πιθανόν χρησιμοποιούνταν ήδη από τη Μινωική εποχή. Το σπήλαιο έχει βάθος και διαμορφώνεται σε θαλάμους με σταλακτίτες και σταλαγμίτες που δημιουργούν μια ατμόσφαιρα σχεδόν μυστηριακή. Η σιωπή, η δροσιά και το φως που φιλτράρεται από τα ανοίγματα δημιουργούν μια εμπειρία μοναδική και σχεδόν μεταφυσική.
