Nostos is a restaurant, but has the feeling of a taverna, with quite comfortable seating, very hospitable staff who are willing to explain dishes or recommend what to eat. They have two daily (traditional) dishes they inform you about at your table, and they are written on the blackboard at the street. They serve many traditional and local dishes, from which we tried quite a few, and they were well prepared and really delicious and unlike anything we’ve ever had before in Greece. (And this is our 11th time visiting this wonderful country) Maybe that explains also why so many local Greeks eat here! Ofcourse, tourists come here as well. The menu has a wide variety of dishes and appetizers, ofcourse also including the ‘standard’ dishes you’ll expect in every taverna. A very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The toilets are very clean and tidy, which might be unimportant, but was another stand-out to me. When you are finished eating, you’ll get a piece of homemade cake and a tiny bottle of Greek raki, which serves about 4 shots. Prices are very decent, especially when you take into consideration that you’ll be eating something different and very well prepared. I highly recommend to enjoy a very tasty and original meal here, and please try some of the...
Read moreIt is a great secluded place - big mountains surround the small but picturesque beach - it feels very peaceful and relaxing. We were 7 people each having a main dish + 4/5 shared dishes. The shrimps in pesto sauce were really good. We also ate snails, salads, traditional ommelette with eggplants and more. At the end, as in many restaurants in Crete they delivered an extra free of charge dessert (fruit salad) and we could enjoy a 1h nap on the sunbeds in front of the restaurant before paying the bill and leaving the places. I would recommend of you are with a car and relatively close to...
Read moreExcellent food with friendly, attentive service. Enjoyed lovely tender lamb from the wood oven tonight with delicious ratatouille. Hand cut chips also very good. CRETAN CATS We were very pleased to see that the local Kato Zakros street cats have all been neutered (see the ear notch on the photo which means they’ve been neutered - or ‘steros’ in Greek). Neutering and returning street cats to where they live (if safe to do so) is current good practice re. animal welfare. Shout out to Rowena who...
