Canava Santorini — Attraction in Municipality of Thira

Stumbled across this place on a day out exploring Meseria. A 15 minute stroll from the centre and here you are. Not very well signposted or advertised and thought it was closed when we first arrived but with a little exploring around the back of the building we found the entrance, it's worth the hassle. Wonderful tour around the distillery with a history of Santorini. At the end of the tour you enter a little shop for a sample taste of 4 drinks, if you're lucky as we were you'll get 5. Ended up buying some of their bottles to take home. Even the walk to it is stunning through narrow cobbled lanes passing several churches. My only criticism is it's not very well advertised and not very well signposted and you stumble across it but that is not a negative of the place itself just the way they have marketed themselves. Hidden gem of Santorini. Great alternative to wine tasting and only 30 min walk from Fira. It was an amazing experience, totally free from the crowds. I highly recommend it. The museum tour (it was just us and the tour guide) includes not only liquor production and history but also Santorini's history. It's very also well maintained. On top of that our tour guide was very kind and it made the experience really amazig. At the end there is a liquor tasting and a store to buy some. The liquor was so tasty, that now we have to buy extra luggage to bring the bottles back home. The price of a ticket was 12e per person and the tour lasted 45 minutes. I walked all the way to the distillery on a Friday afternoon only to find it deserted. I called their phone number & the first guy to pick up said to wait a second, then when I asked the second guy if this was the distillery, he said “closed” and immediately hung up. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for businesses to update their hours here or provide even basic customer service, but thanks for wasting my time!
