I had high expectations from this winery, in contrast it turned out to be my worst wine tasting experience ever. We visited the winery Thursday afternoon and there were few people already there. The lady at the reception was welcoming and friendly, no problems there. We scanned the menu and we decided to order the 100% Assyrtiko wine tasting. We were 2 adults so we ordered 2 times the same. The young lady who took the order did not even bother to propose to order 2 different options. When the wines arrived they were not in the right temperature but we did not complain. The young lady (whose by the way knowledge of wine seemed to be limited) told us quickly the lines she had memorised and left. After a while they brought us something to bite and to accompany the tasting but only one portion, even though we had ordered 2 packages. The wine was mediocre, I only really liked Nychteri, then Santorini barrel and 7 villages were also OK. Funny thing, that the lady came to ask what was our opinion, I didn't want to say anything bad so I said everything is OK, then she asked which one was our favourite and she left before I even completed my answer. My wife and I looked each other and laughed, then we decided to leave. The whole wine tasting lasted around 20 mins and we paid around 64€ (wine tasting packages, water, juice, tips). I understand that most wineries employ young boys and girls for the season, most of which are studying the subject, because they get paid less. However, for a wine lover, being able to carry out a small conversation is important. In my opinion all personnel (except the reception lady) are not up to the expected standard and believe me, I have visited many wineries in many different countries. 1 star, I regretted visiting the winery, I even regretted leaving a tip to the personnel. Mediocre wine...
Read moreAbsolute must visit! This was one of our favourite things we've done on our holiday.
We got the €34x2 wine tasting and €23 cheese platter with €3.50 bread and €2 water. For this price you get 8 wines. 4 white, 1 rose, 2 red and a red dessert wine. They are all made locally and the staff tell you about all the wines when they lay them down. They are placed on a labelled mat so you always know what you're drinking even after a few glasses 😉 they also give you a booklet, so if you forget anything the waitor(ess) tells you then you can look it up. You can also write in the booklet to make it more fun - me and my partner rated each one and compared. The wines were all tasty, as expected you prefer some to others but that's the fun of it.
The cheese was all again 'localish' with some made in Naxos etc. They give you enough to share between two, 6 cheeses with 2/3 wedges, and was a perfect lunch for us. We paired it with the bread which was homemade on site.
The vineyard itself is very pretty. It's surrounded by vines and has both a shaded and unshaded outdoor seating area. Some areas are also well sheltered from the wind. There's two lovely cats on site and the staff ensure you're OK with them before allowing them to roam freely.
The vineyard itself is a 30m walk from oia which is perfect to walk off that cheese 😉
Couldn't recommend this more. The service was impeccable and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable visit. We paid €116 (with an extra 2 full glasses of wine on top) and thought it was fair pricing for the entire experience, especially when we were there for around 2 and...
Read moreDomaine Sigalas was by far the activity highlight of our trip and we thankfully chose to go on our final day on the island which made a lasting impression. We had the wine pairing with small plates for 100€ per person and it was well worth the money. In addition to fabulous, unique wines with fresh local food pairings that were of Michelin star quality, the day begins with a lovely, and extremely informative tour and history of the vines. The process by which wine is made in Santorini is unlike anywhere else in the world due to the ash soil from the volcanoes and is fastinating to learn the nuances. Maria was our guide and sommelier and an absolute delight! She is so knowledgeable and full of life and has a true passion for her profession and sharing it with others. We felt very fortunate to have her undivided attention as we were the only ones on the tour and tasting that day. We can't recommend the experience enough. If you want varification of the authenticity of the wines, check out their ratings in Vivino. The New York Times Sunday addition as well as Wine and Spirits Magazine have highlighted them and named then top 100 wineries in the world. This is a must if you are a wine lover and...
