This pyramid is Tikal's Taj Mahal, a temple built by a king to honor his beloved queen. At 138 feet it is the shortest of all the "numbered" pyramids yet still it is 40 feet taller than El Castillo of Chichen Itza. It's a massive looking three-tier pyramid that has been meticulously restored and can be climbed by a wooden staircase accessed behind the monument. If you're with a friend climb the pyramid and have your friend stand in the middle of the plaza and check the acoustics. You can talk to each other in a normal voice and hear each other perfectly. make sure to take look at the roof comb which is very ornate and some of the sculpture is still recognizable after 1400+ years.

El Templo II también llamado Templo de Las Máscaras o de la luna, forma parte de las ruinas de Tikal en Petén. Este recinto arqueológico ubicado en la región norte es uno de los lugares más antiguos en Guatemala. Esto debido a que fue el hogar de la civilización maya. Su origen data del año 700 después de Cristo. Su construcción de cuatro pisos fue hecha por el reino de Hasaw Cha’an Kawil conocido también como Ah Cacaw. Este lugar fue utilizado como templo ceremonial para rituales mayas y de sepulcro. Este templo tiene una altura aproximada de 37 a 40 metros y fue denominado como Templo de Las Máscaras porque en la escalera central de la parte superior tiene dos máscaras. Así mismo tiene un altar de tres estancias que están cubiertas por una bóveda maya.

El Templo II, denominado Templo de las Mascaras, de 38 metros de altura, la vista que se tiene desde la cima es bastante impresionante, ya que se puede ver la Gran Plaza desde las alturas, teniendo enfrente al imponente Gran Jaguar, para llegar a la parte superior se utilizan escaleras de madera, las cuales están en perfecto estado, en este punto la gran mayoría de turistas la usan para tomarse fotografías con el fondo del Gran Jaguar. En la parte superior se encuentran unos hermosos lienzos que decoran la piedra.

Uno de los más bonitos templos para ver el atardecer, contemplar la puesta de sol y compartirlo. Recomiendo visitar la zona con antelación y primera hora de medio día o la tarde, comer en la zona para después subir a lo alto de los templos. Durante el recorrido pasarás por zonas llenas de monos y diferentes tipos de vegetación.

A l'arrière du temple II, ou temple des Masques, se trouve un escalier en bois d'une trentaine de mètres de haut. La vue du sommet est assez impressionnante, puisqu'on domine la Grande Place, face à l'imposant temple du Jaguar. C'est l'attraction des touristes pour prendre des selfies avec le Grand Jaguar en arrière-plan.
