An enormous structure located south of the Central Acropolis and in the immediate vicinity of the unreconstructed Southern Acropolis. Read moreThe Temple V of Tikal is located south of the Central Acropolis and with a height of 57 meters is the second highest temple in the city. The temple was built in 600 AD by the 22nd ruler of Tikal, Calavera the Animal (Animal Skull). The architectural style of the pyramid includes features that were popular during the Early Classic period, such as wide balustrades flanking the main stairway and the rounded corners of the temple.
The main plaza seems to be filled with different temples, number 5 being especially picturous. Going up each side gives you a good overview, although they might prevent this soon to be able to maintain the place better for the future.
