Me encantó! I loved it! I visited Guatemala City for the first time and wasn’t initially looking forward to it, but this experience changed my mind. It was a much-needed escape from the busy city. Even with the car sounds surrounding me, the beauty of the gardens and the bird songs made me forget I was in an urban environment, even if just for a little while. I saw several bird species, and the museum provided so much information (en español, of course! ).
The museum has a few galleries, including one with dioramas, gems and minerals, plants and mushrooms, mammals, reptiles, insects, and marine wildlife. I only wish they had a gift shop; wildlife guides and souvenirs would have been great🤩
The 10-quetzal entry fee is very affordable, and I think it could even be a little higher to help with updates to the museum. If you’re looking for a fancy shopping experience in Zona 10 Centro Comercial here, you're going to be disappointed, because this isn't it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, all you need is a little nature! Plus, it’s a lovely spot that provides a small sanctuary for wildlife...
Read moreGarden is great! Some logistics: Q10/person as of Sept. 2024 (about $1.30). This grants entry to both the garden and the unfortunately underfunded Natural History Museum, which are in the same compound. Cash only Google says it closes at the 3:00 PM, but it actually closes at 4:00 PM and entry stops at 3:00 PM. So, e.g., you could go in at 2:45 PM and stay until 4:00 PM Entry is a little confusing: the entrance isn't labeled. It's in the middle of Calle 32 through a big green gate that's always closed. It's often locked and you'll need to ring a doorbell on the right to be buzzed in by a...
Read moreThe exhibitions are an embarrassment for the most part, what makes the place worth it is the garden. There are a few interesting fossils, the diagram of Earth's timeline is fun to watch. There are a few taxidermied animals but most are sadly old and barely holding together. The garden is nice and peaceful, you will see a lot of trails and birds. The entrance is on the Mariscal Cruz road with limited parking. You just need to get your car close to the metal gate and a guard will open it. There is also parking near the roundabout, on the street, take it at...
