UMAI social club — Restaurant in Guatemala City

Everything about this place was a good effort, but to me it wasn’t all the way there. The place itself had some cool branding and design choices, but the seating seemed almost like patio furniture. The ramen was tasty, but the noodles were too chewy and the pork had a tremendous amount of fat. The waiter was nice, but wasn’t sharply attentive. Lastly, I think the price was surprisingly high. $20 USD for a bowl of ramen and a beer in Guatemala seems a bit high, especially given what I said about the food quality. Umai Social Club no es solo un restaurante, es una experiencia visual y gustativa desde que entras. Su estética inspirada en manga japonés te transporta de inmediato a otro universo, ideal para quienes amamos la cultura nipona con un toque urbano.

🍜 Lo que vinimos a probar: el ramen

El ramen aquí se toma en serio. El Shoyu Ramen fue el favorito de la noche: caldo profundo, bien balanceado, con ese umami que reconforta desde el primer sorbo. El huevo marinado estaba en su punto perfecto y los toppings generosos, como debe ser. Para los valientes del picante, el Red Spicy Curry es un viaje delicioso con un kick al final que calienta el alma (¡y la lengua!).

🌮 Pero lo que nos hizo quedarnos…

…fueron los Big Taco Sushi. ¡Qué joya! Nori capeado al tempura que se mantiene crujiente hasta el último bocado, relleno de arroz, aguacate y proteína a elegir. Nosotros pedimos camarón y atún, y no hubo necesidad de agregarle nada más. La textura, el equilibrio de sabores y la presentación son impecables.

Pide una cerveza local de Antigua, Guatemala, para redondear la experiencia con un toque nacional. Fría, espumosa y perfecta para el tipo de comida.

🎶 Ambiente y servicio

La música es perfecta para el lugar, moderna pero no invasiva. El único punto a mejorar es el servicio, ya que en hora pico solo había un mesero para todo el local. Hace lo que puede, pero se siente la espera. Sin embargo, no opaca el nivel del menú.

Conclusión: Ven por el ramen, quédate por los tacos sushi, regresa por la experiencia completa. Umai Social Club es una parada obligada en Ciudad de Guatemala si buscas fusión japonesa...
