Secret beaches in Oahu 🏝 Many of the beaches near the Koko Crater on Oahu are not suitable for swimming as the waves are intense on this side of the island (but great for skilled surfers). We stopped by Sandy Beach and the life guard told us this was the most dangerous beach in Hawaii due to the huge waves. We went a little further down the coast and found the Halona Beach Cove, with much calmer waves due to being protected by the cove. 🌴 Save this post for details on how to access the cove (it wasn’t immediately apparent to me when we arrived): - park in the Halona blowhole lookout parking lot. Many people stop here and only view the lookout, including many tour buses. - walk back toward the road near the parking entry way and you will find an opening between the road on your right and the cove on your left - scramble down a few rocks and a very short distance (nothing crazy we did it in flip flops) - in a couple minutes you will be at the beach cove! Come early if you want to have this spot all to yourself! #oahubeaches #hawaiistagram #oahuhawaii #hawaiilife #hawaiianislands #hawaiiphotography #hawaiireels #beachvibes #hawaiitrip #hawaiilove #hawaiivacation #oahulife

Halona Blowhole lookout and Halona Beach Cove are a must-visit during your tour of Oahu. It is a short drive from Honolulu. You can access the cove by walking down a trail (flip flops are not ideal footwear) to get the the small beach at the bottom. The view is beautiful. People were there swimming. There are lots of little crabs on the rocks which are amusing to watch. There is a cave that goes all the way under the road to the other side. We went in for a bit but it gets very dark once you get in a good way. It is pretty from the outside but I’d avoid going in. It smells like urine in my opinion. Avoid the cave and you’ll have a magical experience at this little cove. Wear good shoes and take tour flip flops for the beach. The beach sparkles like diamonds. Very beautiful.

Of all the beaches we frequented around Oahu, Halona Cove was by far the most fun and exciting. We spotted the cove while driving along the highway and decided to make the trek down from the scenic lookout. While the beach itself is limited in space, it more than made up for in huge, crashing waves. The waves are quite strong by the beach, and get larger and more violent as you swim further out into the cove. I swam close to the mouth of the cove and experienced massive waves from all sides (Note: it can be quite dangerous to swim outwards and not recommended for safety reasons). A little out of the way, but definitely worth the little detour.

This is the beach that the famous scene in "From Here To Eternity" was filmed and more recently "I know what you did last summer" the series was shot in this exact location! Halona Beach Cove is an absolutely stunning site and is a great place to take beautiful pictures. Conveniently close to Honolulu and plenty of parking, make this a massive tourist attraction. This cove also contains a unique blowhole that adventurous tourists can cautionly sneak down to and view all of its glory. #hawaii #beach #ocean #honolulu

I loved this spot! You can see the blowout hole and also go down the small beach. There’s also a cave/tunnel down there! Both times I went were kinda crowded but there’s always people playing music on their speaker so it’s a nice vibe! This place was the only one where the water didn’t burn my eyes after jumping🫶🏼🫶🏼 the only reason I give it a 4/5 is because the sand is son thin so if it’s really windy it goes everywhere!!! One time I couldn’t lay down on my towel without being full of sand:(( Also saw a turtle!
