6 years ago I happily watched the grand unveiling of the revitalized boardwalk and newly built pier (following the destruction of the original pier by Hurricane Mitch in 1998).
Today I visited once again, as I do every few months, only to see the further corrosion and decline of the area. Nothing is being maintained.
The signs are rusted. The paint on the family playgrounds are chipping. There's trash everywhere.
The new pier is collapsing at the end. Only 6 years old and support beams are giving out.
Such a sad state for an area that is so greatly appreciated by local families and small businesses. Still a nice place for a walk, but a shame it hasn't...
