What a pleasure has been visiting the ruins of this Roman villa! Although I did not get any explanation, the site was open (as it was supposed to be, every Sunday between 11 am and 1 pm) and a lady greeted me at the entrance. Entrance is free and you get to see three mosaics (the one depicting Hercules has been placed at the near Aquincum museum), together with the structure of the villa and some stone sarcophagi, since the site was at a later stage used as a burial place. There's a sheet explaining the history of the villa in Hungarian and in English, there are benches, a bin and a drinking fountain. The site is in a residential area, easily reachable by public transport (I got the tram number 1 and walked less than 10 minutes to it) and the atmosphere is quiet, peaceful and therefore ideal for your visit, which I absolutely recommend! It is true that the covering would benefit from a bit of...

I've been trying to visit the site for the past three years but it was only available to visit with special private appointment. Speaking to the archaeologist on site today, she informed me that they've started offering Sunday visits around mid day without appointment for almost one year now.

While the structures and protective buildings covering the mosaics are in serious need of repair it doesn't take away from the overall access to the ruins available there and the excellent tour in Hungarian language provided by the archaeologist gave good comprehensive information about local Roman activity in the region as well as at this particular site. It was wonderful to be able to speak to her as she was also bilingual in English.

An excellent site with good explanations and an excellent site presentation. I...

A Hercules villa mely egy gazdag római polgàr lakóhàza volt, az itt feltàrt -megtalàlt mozaikpadlóiról híres.

A villa első építési periódusa a Kr.u.2.sz.első felére tehető. A "védőépületekben" hàrom mozaikpadlós szoba talàlható. Az első szoba padlója geotermikus mintájú, a màsodik keretdísze téglalapokkal, négyzetekkel, hàromszögekkel kombinált meander vonal , melynek középmezeje elpusztult az idők soràn. A harmadik helység Hercules mítoszàt elevenítette meg. A màsik "védőépület"a villa magànfürdőjét védi, melyben egy ökölvívókat àbràzoló mozaik làtható.

A 3.szàzad legvégén vagy a 4.szàzad elején a villàt elhagytàk, így később az épület helyét temetkezésre hasznàltàk, a kertben làtható későrómai sírlàdàk ebből a...
