I spent a beautiful evening thanks to the performance of the very talented singer Ms. James, the pretty skilled guitarist Mr. Wamble and the Bela Bartok Orchestra 👏🏻👏🏻🌟. At first I didn't feel well probably due to the heatwaves during those days 🥵 and to my tiredness. It then went better thank God 🙏🏻✨️. The Palace of Arts was built to get the best sound possible. I can't complain about that. Modern and refined design. In any case, I cannot consider the experience fully satisfying. Some reception staff and others right next door, in the café, they weren't particularly willing to listen to a simple request from me. I am, as always, polite and respectful and my English is good. They replied in local language. Some ladies present in the audience, perhaps because they thought they still belonged to an era of imperial power 🤷🏼♀️🤔 replied me, speaking English, that they didn't know the language and didn't understand it. A few, if not very few English indications to decide which floor to reach because the most suitable language is Hungarian 😒. I only saw one person in a wheelchair or with difficulties reaching the centre. This happens in many other European capitals. Much more should be done. I would also like to remind those reading this review that there are also hidden disabilities. I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy a great concert and be able to greet the Artists 🙏🏻❤️🎵 and this is what matters. Despite some misunderstandings I thank the staff who were kind to...
Read moreThe venue is great: spaces are well designed for different purposes: some for sitting in an amphithéâtre, some for enjoying drinks, some for seeing the entire panorama of the inside space. Bathrooms are great. There is a small Music Store inside the venue which is cool because it has a few less known instruments. Inside the music hall the “balcony” chairs on the side were heavy and were just that, chairs like you have in your dining room. So space can be a bit of a problem depending on your weight/ height. Main hall chairs looked ok as they are regular concert chairs. But all was good except the performance. So my score is a reflection of the performance. In my opinion the “ Margret Island” is a totally misconceived performance. Most of the things are repetitive, uniform, kind of gratuitous/useless. They are moving around large/ bulky “ mattresses” that distracts rather then contributing to anything else. The focus on the soloist/ singer is a mistake for many, many reasons. The voice was flat, with no nuances and musicality for the entire performance. Almost everything distracted from the content of the songs/ stories as they were presented in the performance summary. This looked liked a performance for a stadium in the end and not a concert hall. Also a better selection of the songs would have been wonderful with more variations so things don’t sound so monotone. Anyhow some people liked it so if you know the band and enjoyed their music then you may...
Read moreFive stars, over and over! Aesthetics. Five stars. ⭐️ Comfort. Five stars. ⭐️ Acoustics. Five stars. ⭐️ Convenience. Five stars. ⭐️ And for innovation, at least five stars. ⭐️ We attended a performance of the Mozart Requiem held in the Bela Bartok Hall within the Müpa complex. After attending a series of concerts in some of Europe’s most famous concert venues (Paris Philharmonic, Concertgebouw, Gewandhaus, Berlin Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Vienna’s Musikverein (home of the Vienna Philharmonic), and more, I feel that Bela Bartok not only holds its own but may be my favorite of the modern halls, and that its acoustics may be one of the two best I experienced, Musikverein being the other. Having sat in balcony seats in most of these halls I can say with confidence that I’m comparing “apples to apples”, at least to some extent. (Obviously, there were different programs with different orchestras so a pure comparison is not possible.) Regardless, my experince was one of the highlights of a three month sojourn in Europe, and with total certainty the highlight of my four days spent...
