At least once in a lifetime. Or twice;) The Danube Bend is a spectacular place where you can experience the beauty of Nature in full (even a Scotsman being in awe means a lot to me). This is the view you get from the Castle.
The Castle itself is really close to the city and the serpentines to get there are awesome (Danube view of course:) + lizard friend pic). The parking was ok in the end, but I think at peak time it could be a little tight. The guard helps to find empty spaces in need.
(You'll forgive me for the few pics, but most of the time I just want to BE in the moment and not really care taking pics when in company. The few selfies being private and wouldn't help you anyway with seeing the place.)
The Castle itself you can walk about and climb onto corridors among the ruins. It's not a large Castle with rooms and all, it's more of a memory of an era with some rough rock climbing for the kid in us. It had a great feel to walk about in the breeze coming from the hills and the river. They do have a wax exhibition to show you how people used to dress and they look very animated - we almost missed that, because I thought it was just another few puppets. Boy, was I wrong. I stood corrected - surrounded by enchanting music of the middle ages. You could even try arrow shooting outside the Castle wall (one of Us enjoyed it a lot). We didn't do the pony ride though. People however could dress up in middle age authentic dresses for their picture to be taken. We rather bought some souvenirs and went for lunch in the city.
Being a Hungarian I was very keen to hear my Friend's view on the day and I think he said it beautifully: if you want to really experience Hungary and its culture, you need to get out of our gorgeous Budapest and see the country side. This was sitting in the restaurant where He was melting away from the great steak (Siràly Restaurant). And even the food He said was a different feel altogether in the countryside. What...
Read moreTotal scam. They only let you pay with cash for the parking more than usual and when they want, for the tickets at the entrance. There is no legal control and the employees and the company do what they want. Be careful or they'll try to charge you more I euros or charge you for the parking. They always mistake and casually always are mistakes that benefits them. It is very popular to scam tourist with the currency exchange, even in official spots sometimes. I think it is ridiculous. On the other hand, the only atm they have is off and it has been of in months, so you can not withdrawal the local currency at the area, and with that, the employees will try to charge you in euros , so they will be able to trick you in several ways and take advantage using currency tricks.. The fortress is okay, do not expect great things. I use to like visit fortresses with weak content but the the hole experience with the scams from all the employees in the area makes me do not recommend it and advise to be careful, and complain to the legal authority if they charge you unreal prices to get...
