This place will be always special to me as I saw the incredible “Northern Lights” here for the first time. Lighthouse is very picturesque. The view is amazing, one has the view of the ocean and the Reykjavik skyline. On a clear night I was able to look at the red sky just above the volcano and the view was amazing. The place is on the edge of the ocean so very very windy most of the time. The lighthouse is very close to Reykjavik, has a lot of open area to sit and relax. Parking is free and limited on the front, not sure if there is another parking spot as both of the times I was able to find a spot on the main parking area and it was always dark in the vicinity to have a wider view of other surroundings. People often visit in the night to see the Northern lights so maintain darkness so others are not bothered. Highly recommend going here on clear nights to experience...

Surrounded by rocky shores and breathtaking coastal views, it provides a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The lighthouse itself is an architectural gem, standing tall against the dramatic backdrop of the sea and the distant mountains. The area around the lighthouse is a haven for birdwatchers, as it serves as a nesting ground for various seabirds. Grótta Island Lighthouse is the perfect spot to witness Iceland's natural beauty, whether it's admiring the mesmerizing sunsets, taking peaceful walks along the shoreline, or simply finding solace in the serenity of the...
Read moreMy family and I went out to the lighthouse around 11pm hoping to see the northern lights, but they didn't show up for us. We hiked from the parking lot to the lighthouse just to get a good picture of the lighthouse. At night it is very dark, so you will need flashlights and make sure the weather is clear enough for the walk, because the ocean is on both sides of the trail which is on a very thin peninsula, so it could be dangerous during high winds and during a storm. Daytime is probably a lot safer, but God helped us find our way and stay safe. I also would recommend gloves, because the wind is very cold and it becomes uncomfortable very fast. I'd definitely go back though, it was...
