Grótta is amazing place located on the tip of Seltjarnarnes Peninsula. Only 10-15 min from Reykjavik downtown. The characteristic marks of this place is ligthouse. Grótta was declared a nature reserve in 1974 due to its abundant birdlife. The lighthouse was built in 1897 and later, in 1947 there was another one built close by. Grótta is an amazing place for walking, biking or bird watching. Be aware of the fact that the lighthouse is accessible only during low tide, although it is still visible from distance if you go there during high tide. Grótta is also a popular place for people to visit when they want to see the Northern lights. The lightpollution is low, so if the weather is good with no clouds, and the solar activity is high Grótta is a good spot to view the lights (between September to the end of March). NOTE: Closed, bird protection 1st May...

They call this place the grotta but they should call it the notta… cuz if you’re there to see the northern lights there’s notta lot to see ifyaknowhatimsayin. During the day it’s kinda nice and scenic and a good place to take a romantic photo wit yer findanzata! But if you think your gonna go up there and see you some borealis the only kind you’re gonna catch is areolas! Cuz that’s all there is… a bunch of cars with lights on and some knuckleheads tryna get lucky. The grotta ain’t got notta thing goin on....

Nice viewing spot on the water in Reykjavik. Definitely pop in here if you have a vehicle and extra time. Not the #1 site on our Iceland trip, but another site showcasing local focus on the sea. Looks to be an active lighthouse. We tried this at night to see Aurora Borealis. No luck, but locals do recommend this as a good location...
