We drove down here to watch the aurora on two different nights while staying in Reykjavik. It’s a pretty good spot to watch from if you’re in the city and you wanna get a better view of the lights. The view of the lighthouse is cool right from the parking area, and the view to the mountains across the water is quite nice too. The main drawback is that it’s very popular, so you can expect traffic and lots of cars coming and going with headlights. A lot of people only view from the parking area, but if the cars are bothering you, you can walk over towards the lighthouse. However, the parking situation was catastrophic, as every centimeter was blocked by cars (people who can't drive) and tour buses. As a result, there were a lot of people on site.
We didn't visit the lighthouse inside.
No parking fees.
Drivers with no experience should park elsewhere. It is a good idea to park a little further away and walk...
Read moreThis is one of the places in Reykjavik where you can see the famous northern lights during the season where it appears. I was here in June, so didn’t see northern lights. However, this place can make for breathtaking sunset views and photos, especially in summer where the sun sets very late. Some of these photos were taken between 10:30 and 11pm in June, which makes for quite unique views and photos, videos and panoramas. However, if you are coming here late in the evening, bring blankets and warm material because it is quite cold in this area, even in the summer season. If you want to see the northern lights, there is a season where it appears, best to look it up before deciding to see the famous...
