Visit to Bihar Museum was an eye opener. The place is located on Bailey, close to Patna High Court and Patna Women's college. Easily accessible by public and private transport. Parking access for 4Whlr & 2Whlr is from backside and there is adequate space. There is reasonable charge for parking and Entrance charge to museum is Rs.100 per person. The museum facade is attractively landscaped and there is well maintained greenery in the surroundings. The displays are located on two floors. Historical artifacts are displayed in various galleries, interspersed with written information boards, interactive electronic displays etc. There is a mini theatre screening 15/20 minute film on history of Bihar. The famous Deedarganj Yakshi, which was sent to various museums in USA including New York Metropolitan museum during Festival of India in US, is in glorious display. Public conveniences like washrooms, lifts, restaurants, cafe's, seating bench in galleries, coutyards, Interactive electronic display giving the layout of the museum, makes this place visitor friendly. Even the elderly, infirm or disabled can enjoy visit. So far the the place is well kept and well maintained. I do pray visitors keep it that way, free from spit stains, littering in open spaces, damaging interactive electronic & other displays, etc. A visit is higly recommended for all ages including family and one can easily spend fruitful 2 to 3 hours, learning and seeing history of Bihar and its people through ages. For those having deeper interest in history of Bihar, it can be fruitful starting point for more serious study. I would commend people who thought of this place. Can we have something like Choki Dani of Rajasthan or Sadda Pind of Punjab giving a glimpse of typical rural, village and farm life of Bihar. I am quite people in and out of Bihar would be interested.

Very interesting museum, The museum is kept very clean. I am the Bihar Museum! I welcome you to explore my treasures and artefacts in my galleries, rooms, corridors and courtyards! I am situated on a 13.5 acre plot on Bailey Road in Patna. The total built-up area is 24,000 square metres and the total gallery spaces add up to an area of 9500 square metre. For this project, Maki and Associates of Japan teamed up with OPOLIS Architects of Mumbai, India. Life is all about experience. Every second, in fact every nano-second, we are continuously experiencing. Even if we are not consciously thinking about it, we can feel, smell, touch, hear and see. How beautiful it is, this capacity to experience! It is what mothers teach their children and how teachers shape their students. I was built by my architects fundamentally for all visitors to experience history. You will enter the magical worlds of kings, poets, saints and countrymen, the history of times gone and many transformations. Japanese architects Maki and Associates were selected through a competition. The design they submitted was unique for several reasons. For one, they saw my building as an Expanse. They wanted visitors to feel the sense of time by walking through spaces to understand the context of history in the present moment. They also envisaged travelling through me as in a Journey to show the epic scope of the narratives of history.

As many others have mentioned, Bihar Museum is undoubtedly one of the best curated collection and exhibition of artifacts related to Indian history. We could manage only History segment of the museum, it took us almost 3 hours, and we did not spend enough time on all the exhibits as much as we wanted to. We visited A, B and C galleries in that sequence. The show at the auditorium ran at noon, we had to visit this show after visiting gallery A. But I think it’d have been better if one sees the show before starting visiting the gallery. The interactivities blended in the galleries are very good. E.g., I could enter my name to get the name printed out on Brahmi script. There are at least 2 stations I found. The museum shop, however, needs more serious thoughts. The exhibition has set high standard, and the shop fails to demonstrate that thought process. Very limited set of items are on offer that can relate to rich collection in the museum. Very few replicas, didn’t see many books/maps, affordable mementos for everyone (I observed 2-3 school children visiting as part of a group looking for something that they could buy, but didn’t find any). The social handles are quite good. I found the Facebook channel for the museum is rich in news and information. Overall, fantastic museum. I wish continuous improvements and additions to the museum and all success.
