Baga River — Attraction in Goa

​The Baga River, Goa's shortest river, carves a serene path through the Bardez region before merging with the Arabian Sea. It formally emerges from the forest areas of Assagao, where it begins its brief, approximately 10-kilometer journey through the coastal taluka.

​A small, significant tributary joins the river early in its course. This is a stream originating from the nearby Saligao hill, which converges with the main flow at the village of Arpora, bolstering the river's volume as it meanders towards the coast. ​ As it flows closer to the sea, the river transforms into a quiet estuary, heavily influenced by the daily tides. It is bordered by lush mangrove thickets , providing a crucial habitat for local aquatic life, contrasting sharply with the loud nightlife a few hundred meters away.

​The river finally culminates at the northern end of the famous Baga Beach, where it merges directly with the Arabian Sea. I went for a 2 hour kayak trip on a gorgeous day. Peaceful. Green, flowers blooming. Take the time to enjoy the birds, look carefully at rivers edges as you’ll find many crabs hanging out. Some will look at you, others enjoy drinking water or crawling about, many will hide. Despite the trash; it was most refreshing and very relaxing. I did a 2 hour kayaking trip. ‘Max’ will even call you to let you know your 30 minute mark to come in. So many unique formations if you just take your time to enjoy. Bring water.
