Mahatma Gandhi Park — Attraction in Karnataka

The Mahatama Gandhi Park in Gandhi Nagar, Mangalore is one of the last few green spaces surviving in that locality. It's survival also, one suspects, is more due to the efforts of the locals than the Mangalore City Corporation. In the corners of the park one can see the old light fixtures/ the metal archway which was once fixed over the main gate awaiting disposal. When that will happen is anybody's guess. Signs of decay are evident around the park. Whatever that might be, the locals turn out in big numbers every evening to work out their daily tensions by taking walks around the park, sit on the benches to exchange the local gossip and generally enjoy the cool of the evening while listening to the gentle music played on the parks PA system. A small library which I had visited about 25+ years back still seems to be operating. For the first time we visited the Mahatma Gandhi park in Mannagudda. Buzzing with so many kids, older senior family members and lots of joggers / walkers. It has a huge space for kids. One park particularly dedicated to kids below 6. One part of the park is to play badminton. The park has a walking track and lots of greenery around. I noticed provision of a toilette and also clean drinking water. Benches are placed all around the park to sit and enjoy the ambience. Ample parking space outside the park, all around infact. There is a public library too. On my way out i noticed a poster hosting Yoga daily from 6 15 to 7 30 every morning.
