I recently visited Heritage Museum Ambalavayal, a museum located in Ambalavayal, Wayanad, Kerala. I was interested in learning more about the history and culture of the region, and I was not disappointed. The museum is housed in a beautiful old building, and it is divided into several sections. The first section is dedicated to the history of Wayanad, and it features exhibits on the region's tribal culture, its natural history, and its role in the spice trade. The second section of the museum is dedicated to the culture of Wayanad, and it features exhibits on traditional arts and crafts, folk music and dance, and religious traditions. The third section of the museum is dedicated to the natural history of Wayanad, and it features exhibits on the region's flora and fauna. I was particularly interested in the section on the tribal culture of Wayanad. I learned about the different tribes that live in the region, their traditional way of life, and their unique culture. I was also impressed by the museum's collection of tribal artifacts, which included everything from jewelry and clothing to weapons and musical instruments. The staff at the museum were very knowledgeable and helpful. They were happy to answer my questions and provide me with additional information. I would highly recommend Heritage Museum Ambalavayal to anyone interested in learning more about the history and culture of Wayanad. Here are some of the things I loved about Heritage Museum Ambalavayal: * The beautiful old building * The informative exhibits * The affordable admission price I would definitely recommend Heritage Museum Ambalavayal to anyone looking for a great educational and cultural experience in Wayanad.

The heritage museum is located in the main city itself. It contains artistic displays of miniature models, and actual archaeological excavations focused on showing the region's history. The museum ranges from showing the engravings on rocks at Edakkal caves and the Tovari Rock Shelter. Inside is a room containing soil samples from across the state, showing the various types of soils available for farming. Further inside, there is a big hall that showcases the tribal life. These include the various instruments used for farming, the various caskets used for catching fish, etc. There is also a real-life-sized version of the plow kept inside the hall. Further, there are storage containers made of wicker to show how grains and other items are stored in tribal villages. Post that on the lower floor and across the showcases near the staircase display the various sculptures and carvings that have been excavated. Each structure also has a small description of what the same is and what period or century it belongs to. There are also showcases displaying the various types of jewellery being worn and the instruments that might be used for self security of hunting. Thus, overall, the museum is a great place that showcases the entire details of Kerela's tribal communities as well as the rich history of the region. This place is especially important to be visited if there are families with school-going kids.

Wayanad Heritage Museum, also known as the Ambalavayal Heritage Museum, is an archaeological museum that has an impressive collection of artefacts belonging to the tribes of the region. It has an intriguing collection of artefacts belonging to the 2nd century that are tagged as rare. Some of these artefacts have been dated back to the Neolithic era and include regular daily items, decorative items, terracotta figurines, memorial stones, etc. This archaeological museum is divided into four sections namely: Devasmruthi, Gothrasmruthi, Veerasmruthi and Jeevenasmruthi. Each block houses various items that display the simplicity and intelligence and the rustic way of the living of the bygone era. From stones of primitive wars and tiger hunts to admiring stone idols of 12th to 16th century and belongings of Wayanad tribe, the museum brings alive the past of our country in a very special way.

Overall worth visiting! Both, inside the museum & outside! A. INSIDE the MUSEUM A decent rare (& very few contemporary) collection of Tribal and items excavated from nearby villages! Modern Building in 2 Floors with few readable (English), informative Boards (but reflective - photographers, be careful; also low light at many places, needing stand for camera, if you are a serious photographer). B. Outside Lot of very good Sceneries (to see & to take photos). You can see The Edakkal Cave from the 2nd floor balcony and even from the down. C. Outside Lot of good flowers, plant formation and plants - both for Eyes and Camera..! Good collections. Note: The guides / staff over there are very friendly and explains well (in Malayalam and broken English); small tips will make them happy, although it is not mandatory.
