Lodhi Garden is a sprawling 90-acre park in the heart of New Delhi, a serene oasis that beautifully blends history, nature, and architecture. It's a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle. Historical Significance: The garden's history dates back to the 15th century when it was established by the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties as a leisure spot and burial ground for royalty. It houses significant tombs, including those of Mohammed Shah (built in 1444, the earliest in the garden and the sole legacy of the Sayyid dynasty) and Sikander Lodi (built in 1517 by his son Ibrahim Lodi). Other notable structures include the Bara Gumbad (Big Dome) complex, which features a majestic tomb and an attached mosque, and the Sheesh Gumbad (Mirror Dome), once adorned with reflective tiles. Originally known as Bagh-e-Jud, the area around these tombs developed into two villages. In 1936, during British colonial rule, Lady Willingdon (wife of the then British Viceroy) redesigned the area into a landscaped garden, initially naming it Lady Willingdon Park. After India gained independence in 1947, it was renamed Lodhi Garden to honor its original builders. It underwent further redesign in 1968 by architect J.A. Stein. Attractions and Activities: Lodhi Garden is a haven for nature lovers and history enthusiasts. It boasts meticulously maintained landscapes with vibrant blooms, ancient trees, expansive lawns, and water fountains. Visitors can enjoy: Historical Monuments: Explore the architectural marvels of the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties, including the tombs of Mohammed Shah and Sikander Lodi, Bara Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad, and the Athpula (Eight-Piered Bridge) from Emperor Akbar's reign. Botanical Beauty: Wander through the garden's diverse flora, including a bonsai park, rose garden, and a bird-watching haven with various species of birds like peacocks, mynas, and parrots. Recreational Activities: The garden is ideal for morning jogs, leisurely picnics, yoga, meditation, and photography. It's a great place for family outings and fitness activities. Visitor Reviews: Visitors consistently praise Lodhi Garden for its well-maintained lush green lawns, beautiful flowers, and vibrant artwork. Many appreciate its historical significance and the architectural beauty of the tombs. It's often described as a clean and relaxing place, a "heaven" in the middle of the city, perfect for unwinding and spending quality time with friends and family. Reviewers highlight it as an excellent spot for photography and a respite from the city's...

A serene and beautiful garden for visitors and localities alike. The garden is multipurpose and has a small artificial lake along with open air gyms and flower spots. There are two Mamluk (Slave dynasty Delhi Sultanate) era structures smack in the middle of the park built by the Lodhi dynasty. The structures, Shish Gumbad and Bada Gumbad, have been erected in the typical Islamic styled architecture. Of the two, Shish Gumbad used to have colored glasses similar to Samarkand structures but now those have failed the test of time. Apart from these one can spend and use all the facilities for free. Nearest metro station would be Jorbagh (yellow line) or Khan Market (violet line).

This is the best park in New Delhi, be it for a walk, jogging, the children to play around, etc, etc. There is ample car parking space all around the park & the Moghul era monuments in the middle of the park are amazing and very educative. Great to visit all around the year. A must visit !!!
