Ukkadam Periyakulam Park — Attraction in South Zone

The recent initiatives and developments under the Smart City project has helped to develop the lake. At present it is clean and I hope the government will preserve it and maintain the same. The fun and entertainment activities are a welcome addition. It's a great place to have some fun for kids and also to spend some peaceful time with friends and family. There are some stalls located at the banks of the lake that provide really good food and snacks. The park opens at 4.00 and seems like it is open until 9.00 pm. It's a great place to have some picnic kind of entertainment with family. It's a pukka picnic area within the city limits of Coimbatore with adequate facilities. The place is dog friendly. The Ukkadam-Valankulam Lake is situated between Trichy Road and Sangam Bypass Road. Various types of birds like Purple Moorhen, Little Grebes etc come here regularly. A railway track connecting Coimbatore Junction and Podanur passes over the lake. This lake is a popular place among tourists. The location includes a seating area, a play area for children, a walking path for adults, sidewalks, and stands as a selfie spot/selfie corner in Coimbatore. I was disappointed to see the current state of the park and public space around the lake after reading all the news and pics about the beautification in social media and print media. While work is happening in some parts, most of the structures are already broken, granites in the walkway are broken. Not safe for kids as there are few places where the drainage holes are left open. It is a 5.7km loop. They could have focused on basics like creating nice running/walking/cycling mud tracks with lot of trees on both sides, ample seats and gazebos with simple tiles.
