Arignar Anna zoological park, well known as Vandalur zoo. It was a wonderful visit. Unimaginable area within the city of Chennai. Almost all the animals they kept inside the zoo were well maintained. The park is located at Grand southern trunk road, Vandalur, Chennai. The zoo is usually closed on Tuesday, Wednesday to Monday the timing is 9 AM to 5 PM. Try to reach as early as possible to avoid waiting for an electric vehicle and safari bus. We visited on the weekend (Saturday), but it was so crowded, I can not imagine the crowd on Sunday. You will need at least 5-6 hrs to comfortably cover all the spots. The best part is the place is well connected to other places, Just outside the park you will find the bust stop. The entrance fee is 200rs per person, for kids below 5 years of age there is no entrance fee charged. The entrance is beautiful with a small waterfall. Thin plastic carry bags are not allowed, as people may throw them everywhere and may spoil nature. A good initiative. A big area for car parking that too is charged 150 Rs. But a safe place where you can park your vehicle for the day and roam without worrying. There are several restaurants inside, one is at the entrance itself. You will get snacks, tea, coffee, juices, ice creams. Better to carry the lunch with you as you can sit and enjoy the lunch anywhere inside, below the trees, a different kind of experience. There is a Lion and Deer safari available, which is worth, charges are 150 Rs per person, and kids 50 Rs. For Lion and Deer safari you will be taken through an air-conditioned bus inside the areas where Lions and Deer are kept. It will be for almost 20-25 mins. The zoo is very big as you will get exhausted while walking, so better to take cycles on rent. There are cycles available on an hourly basis. Or else you can book an electric vehicle, but the disadvantage of this vehicle is you will have to go in a group with other peoples and it will stop as per their convenience and for tickets also there will be big que, so early reaching is very important. About animals, there are plenty of animals, birds, reptiles , insects etc. A variety of birds, parrots, peacocks, peahens, vultures and animals like monkeys, Giraffe, Zebra, Deer, Elephants, Rhinos, Hippopotamus, Tiger, white tiger, Cheetah, Bengal tiger, Bison, Bear, wild buffaloes, Lion. Reptiles like crocodiles and snakes are also there.A separate aquarium is also there, where a variety of fishes are kept, but the place inside is very dark. Overall a great place to spend time with your kids and family in the wildlife and enjoy the natural things.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, also known as Vandalur Zoo, is one of the largest and most well-maintained zoos in India, located about 32 kilometers from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Spread across 1,300 acres, it is recognized for its vast collection of animals, birds, reptiles, and plant species. Here's a detailed review of the park: 1. Biodiversity: The zoo is home to more than 2,500 species, including lions, tigers, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and a variety of birds and reptiles. It plays an important role in wildlife conservation and breeding programs for endangered species. 2. Enclosures and Natural Habitat: The enclosures are designed to closely mimic the animals' natural habitats, offering them spacious and clean environments. Visitors often appreciate how the animals are not caged but kept in open enclosures, which are separated by moats, making the experience more authentic and natural. 3. Safari Experience: The zoo offers safari rides, including lion and deer safaris, which provide visitors with a closer look at animals in their naturalistic settings. It’s a thrilling experience for both children and adults. Points of Improvement: Crowds during Holidays: On weekends and public holidays, the zoo can get quite crowded, leading to long queues for tickets and safari rides. Food Options: Though there are food stalls available, some visitors feel that the variety of food choices could be improved, with more options for healthier and local cuisine. Prices also higher like 5 start hotel. Overall Experience: Arignar Anna Zoological Park is a wonderful spot for family outings, school trips, and nature enthusiasts. It is a must-visit for anyone interested in wildlife, conservation, or simply a peaceful day in nature.

I visited this zoo on Pooja Holidays This is Located 30 km away from Chennai,a place called Vandalur. This Zoo ia a Vast area.It is better to opt a battery owned Vehicle or Cycle,In my opinion Walking is very Difficult. Not Suitable for Older people or peoples having any Walking issues.Battery car cost around Rs150.And the Entry Fees is Rs 200.We need 1 day to Explore the Full Zoo. From my Experience when you are visiting this zoo please arrive here around 9.00 a.m itself becoz if you arrive late you won't be complete the zoo around the Stipulated time.Apart from zoo Visit There is also deer and Lion safari which is Amazing and Outstanding. Please make use of little snack counter in between becoz the zoo visit we require around 6hours there is no Restaurant facility in between it is a big drawback. And For the deer and lion safari we have to wait around 45 minutes for the bus. This we get tired. On my Visit I found Some of the caves in the Zoo is Empty and the caves are not Adjacent like other we had to walk long for reaching other cave.cycle and battery vehicle is a better Option to complete the Zoo.if you are coming here with old people and Children it is better go by Battery vehicle. The Better Option to Reach here from Chennai is Suburban train.Vandaloor Railway station is 1km away from the Zoo And Also you can use Uber Auto to travel from Railway station to Zoo.It is worth than any of the Transportation.(If you are Using direct Auto the charge will be very High from Railway station to Zoo) It is better to book Ticket in Advance so that you can save your time in case of rush.Parking Facility is there inside Zoo But it should be improved in Future.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park is an expansive and well-maintained zoo, making it a great destination for a day out. Booking tickets is very convenient as you can do it through WhatsApp, which helps you avoid the long queues at the entrance. One thing to note is that they charge ₹10 per use-and-throw plastic bottle if you bring them inside the zoo from outside. The zoo is home to a wide variety of animals including white tigers, Bengal tigers, leopards, giraffes, snakes, crocodiles, chimpanzees, rhinos, elephants, hippopotamuses, birds, and wolves. There's also a beautiful butterfly park inside, which is a special attraction and adds a unique touch to the zoo experience. The overall cleanliness and maintenance of the zoo are impressive, with maps at every diversion to guide you through the routes. The staff is very helpful and friendly, enhancing the visitor experience. The condition of the animals and their enclosures is good, though I did feel that the tiger and leopard cages were a bit small. It takes about 4-5 hours to see all the animals, and the zoo offers great value for money. There are manual and electronic cycles available for rent on an hourly basis, which is a fun way to explore the park. For senior citizens, there are EV vehicles that take them throughout the zoo, making it accessible for everyone. One downside is the limited food options; there's only fast food available and it's quite expensive. Additionally, the park closes by 4 PM, so plan your visit accordingly to make the most of your time there. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Arignar Anna Zoological Park for a fun and educational day out with family or friends.
