Tipu and Haider Mahal — Attraction in Tamil Nadu

Tipu and Hyder Mahal are 2 individual palaces located inside the fort of Vellore. They belong to Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali. Tipu Mahal is said to be the place where Tipu Sultan, along with his family, resided during the rebellion against the British powers. Tipu Mahal houses over 150 rooms, whereas, Hyder Mahal houses more than 200 rooms. All rooms in both palaces reflect the lavish lifestyle led by Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali.

The Tipu Mahal and Hyder Mahal are palaces located inside the Vellore Fort. It is believed that Tipu resided here with his family during the war against the British. The palaces are closed to public nowadays as they serve as a high security prison. In earlier days, these palaces were the prisons used by the Kings. After the death of Tipu Sultan in 1799, his sons, daughters, wife and mother (wife of Hyder Ali) were detained in the Vellore Fort by the Brisitsh.
