According to legend, the temple was established by Kush, the son of Lord Ram. Once while bathing in the Saryu River, Kush lost his armlet. A Nag Kanya (serpent maiden) found it and, upon returning it, expressed her deep devotion to Lord Shiva. To honor her faith, Kush built this grand temple dedicated to Lord Nageshwar Nath.

Nageshwarnath temple holds significant historical and cultural importance. It is famous for being one of the oldest temple of Ayodhya. The presiding deity of Ayodhya is Lord Nageshwarnath Ji. Nageshwar Nath Mahadev temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is believed that Lord Rama's Son Kush, built the beautiful temple. The legends are like, while taking bath in the river Sarayu, Kush lost his armlet. Na-Kanya picked the armlet and fall in love with Kush. She was a devotee of lord Shiva and hence Kush built this temple for her. The current structure dates back to 1750 and was constructed by Naval Rai, a minister of Safdar Jung. It is also believed that Vikramaditya found Ayodhya by means of this temple. The festival of Shivaratri is celebrated here with great enthusiasm.

We have visited this temple after Lunch during our Visit. Typically We can cover all famous tourist destinations of Ayodhya within a day if you start your Day in the morning around 07:00 am. We have visited Ram Janmabhoomi first and followed by Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan, Dasharatha Mahal, then hired taxi to Guptar Ghar and then returned and visited Mani Parvat. Had Lunch and took some rest at Hotel then started evening visit with Ram ki Paidi where we have visited Latha Mangeshkar Chowk, Nageshwarnath Temple, Sri Mani ram Das Chavani. By that time it become evening so we have witnessed Sarayu Aarti at Sarayu Ghat then visited Ram Katha park. You also can follow the same path to cover major and must visit tourist attractions in Ayodhya.
