Kausani Shawl Factory — Attraction in Uttarakhand

Kausani shawl factory is 3 kms from Kausani towards Bageshwar. They have shawls strolls and mufflers that are knit by hand machines. Their shawls range from 250-6500! They have pashminas but not very costly ones. They don’t have original pashminas but the ones with cotton mixture. Needless to say original pashminas are tooooooo costly and thus they don’t sell them here. They get sheep hair wool from Munsiyari and then it is woven by hand machines in the factory itself. Also they have crocket or designed based shawls which they send to local women for embroidery. This place is a semi government run place to the best of my knowledge. Went to this place. Bought items of more than 5000 rupees. They told us these items are all hand made.So all items are costly.We have also seen one man working in their factory. Later when we returned to hotel we came to know all items are imported from Punjab. One man is always sitting there in the socalled factory.But no machines are running.All machines are for show. Later i showed the items to the experts. They confirmed that all are machine mnufactured. We got cheated in the place of bapu. I have also bought items from Munsyari cooperative run by ladies only. In my opinion it looks they dont manufacture shawls there, but they pretend that manufacturing takes place at their factory. They inform all their products are manufactured locally but u can find kashmiri shawls, suits and other stuff also available, it seems products are procured from various wholesale markets across North India. Buyers please verify or use ur discretion before buying clothing stuff.
