Nandalal Temple in Bishnupur is a captivating example of Bengali temple architecture and art. Built during the 18th century, this temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and stands out for its distinct terracotta artwork, which vividly depicts various aspects of Hindu mythology and everyday life in its intricate carvings. The temple's design is notable for its unique blend of architectural styles, including the traditional "Ek-Ratna" (single spire) and "Chala" (curved) roofs. The terracotta panels covering the exterior of the temple are particularly impressive, showcasing scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as floral and geometric patterns. The surrounding area of Bishnupur adds to the temple’s charm, with its serene atmosphere and historical significance as a center of art and culture during the Malla kings’ reign. Visitors often appreciate the temple not only for its artistic and architectural merits but also for the tranquil experience it offers. Overall, Nandalal Temple is a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian history, architecture, and religious art, providing a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Bengal.

Historical temple, made of laterite soil and bricks. Don't know when it was built but as per the structure and surrounding temples age maybe it was built 300-350 years ago by Malla dynasty. In Bishnupur every historical temple/ building has terracotta art so it's not different. Nandalal means son of Nanda ji. So definitely we know this temple is dedicated to Prabhu krishna. One fine garden articulated properly with the temple can be seen. I like the roof design ( which is in curved sized)as there is no cement or gypsum but still the roof hasn't been bent down. It shows the knowledge which our ancestors hold. This temple is standing naked without deity of Nandalal. It's heartening to see the temple without deity. However maybe there was some reason which forced archeological department to do this. No entry fees is required to enter this temple. Direction: it's quite far from the busstand. Maybe the distance b/w busstand and this temple is 2.5km.
