One of the most cleanest park maintained by Government. It’s not so often you would find such a tidy park. The path on the sideways of the park is great place to walk and sit and chit-chat. The path in the middle of the park towards the marsh land is a great place to see the birds. Also, kudos to the forest department. They have planted all indigenous trees and it was very nice to see them flourishing in full greenery.
While the park is great, some of the visitors are very stupid and careless. They bring in lots of plastic stuffs like chips packet and small cool drinks bottle and they throw it then and there and leave. They have absolute zero regards for the cleanliness which is being maintained. There are several “love birds” and couples who come here just to spend time “alone” and throw all the stuffs there. I literally saw some people taking such stuffs into the park. I hope the government collects minimum entrance fees(it’s free right now) that way love birds who come to spend time with each other are reduced and the genuine nature lovers and bird watchers are allowed. I also hope government starts disallowing plastics inside the premises. I even complained the same to the supervisor and he said no matter what is done, its the basic sense of the visitors to keep the park tidy. Hope the visitors don’t dump their garbages and create another dump nearby in the name of visiting this awesome place and...
Read moreGood initiative from TN Govt. It gives a lesson how without any plans we can turn a bio-diversified marshland to city's dump-yard and after so much land, air and other toxic pollutions and impacts. Now, considering to revert the effects by allocating crores to build a park in 1% of the total protected land. I'm not blaming here. Saying, the lessons we learned without proper planning and carelessness costs us a beautiful landscape degradation, disease to neighbour hoods and waste multiple crore spendings. Pallikaranai park is a good case study for ecosystem management in cities. Still, We need to concentrate on creating awareness on reducing, recycling and reusing techniques among public. This place is good for birdwatching from Sep -Feb during bird migration season in chennai. You can see Spot bellied Pelicans, Painted Storks, Egrets, Ibis, gray/red wattled lapwings, moorhens, coots, swamphens, cormorants, Oriental Darter, Kingfishers, Pipits, Tricolor munia, scaly breasted munias, ashy /plain prinias, Sandpipers,Ruff, Black kites, eagle species, etc. Still after this much pollution nature thrives here. We need to protect this land with care. Good place to bring young children to show different bird species, mongoose and city's big dumpyard for...
