A Disappointing Visit to VGP Universal Kingdom: A Shadow of Its Former Self What was once a beloved destination seems to have fallen into a state of severe disrepair and questionable management. A recent visit to VGP Universal Kingdom revealed a troubling deterioration in safety, hygiene, and basic operational logic, raising serious concerns for public well-being, especially that of children.
The most immediate and terrifying concern was the staff. There appears to be a severe language barrier, with many employees not speaking Tamil or English, which is a major issue in a public-facing role, especially for a park located in Tamil Nadu. This communication breakdown is more than just inconvenient; it’s a critical safety issue. The fear was palpable when a ride operator, struggling to perform a basic function, had to be corrected by another staff member, who had to tell him, "First, switch on the compressor." This kind of basic incompetence puts every visitor's life at risk.
Compounding the safety concerns is the alarming presence of packs of stray dogs roaming freely throughout the park. It is baffling how a private property, teeming with families and children, could allow such a menace to exist, especially given the recent news of fatal stray dog attacks. This represents a monumental failure in maintaining a safe and controlled environment for paying customers.
The rides themselves are a testament to the park’s neglect. They show their age with visible rust, poor welding, and a constant chorus of bumps and squeals that suggest a serious lack of maintenance. The overall state of the equipment feels like a disaster waiting to happen, a sentiment only reinforced by reports of near misses and injuries.
Beyond the physical decay, the park's policies defy all logic. The swimming pool staff, for instance, insists that guests must purchase and wear a "magical" VGP T-shirt, bizarrely claiming it offers protection from chlorine. This is a baseless demand. Similarly, the locker facility is a study in irony; after charging for its use, visitors are warned not to store valuables like wallets or phones because the park is not responsible for their loss. This policy completely nullifies the purpose of a locker.
The food policy is equally misguided. Visitors are not allowed to bring their own food, which is a major problem for families with children who have food allergies or special dietary needs. To make matters worse, the park’s own restaurant staff were seen handling food with bare hands, an unhygienic practice that makes the "no outside food" rule even more offensive.
The locker facility is charged but ironically they say not to store mobile phones /wallets in locker and they are not responsible for the loss ( what's the point of locker then) - VGP clever people - kindly enlighten us if you want us to get in to the swimming pool with our mobile and wallet in our shorts?? logic ?
Ultimately, VGP Universal Kingdom holds so much potential to be a fun and engaging place. However, it desperately needs a leadership change that prioritizes maintenance, safety, and logical thinking. Until then, it remains a shadow of its former self, operating in a manner that is both illogical and, more...

Negatives - A LOT
Avg total spending per person is Rs.1800 - 2000 per person. Want to know how? Read the below points.
No proper maintenance of rides & pool
Huge cost. Not worth the money we pay. Ideally price should be at 400/- per ticket. But VGP universal kingdom ticket is 850 for adults.
No proper guide for food court. The sign board which is kept is for golden gate restaurant which was not operative. Had to search for canteen like setup for food. Totally 6 items was their menu. Price and quality of food is inversely promotional.
For this quality of food, they should not restrict outside food. 850 ticket cost- average 250 food cost per head which is unreasonable.
Parking fee 50/- for car. They shld adjust this parking fee with the ticket cost. Everyone is coming to their amusement parks and vgp's other theme parks only. They shld provide the parking space for free. Charging high ticket cost and additional parking cost is unreasonable.
There is a 12D entertainment which is for additional cost of 120/- per head, other additional counter like fish spa, electric massage in a chair counter etc should have been included in ticket cost itself.
CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION IN WEBSITE AND COUNTER ABOUT DRESS FOR WATER RIDES.
In website its mentioned as aqua dress are availabe for RENTAL(30/-) and its mandatory to wear their water suitable dress. But at the counter it is mentioned for SALE - tshirt for 100/- and half pants for 140/- and full pants price at 200/- i guess. This is mandatory to buy if women are wearing chudidhar or saree which is not allowed to enter into water games.
No jeans pants allowed to enter into water park for men n women.
If u are wearing T shirt with shorts you NEED NOT buy any dress at the counter.
There should be clear information on dress code at the website and at ticket center. These additional spendings are nothing short of sales tactics.
Snacks and juices costs not less than 100 per item.
Life guards at water rides, some of them are college students themselves who work part time I guess. There are no staffs as professional life guards are they claim.
We need to carry sliding rings upto 4 floors and use it to slide water rides. They should provide a machanism to bring the rings to the top. Such facility are available at other theam parks at chennai. Carrying this is annoying. & very limited rings are available. Need to search around for the rings.
Very very very limited water rides. No variety. Total 4 variety of water rides.
God only knows the hygiene of water.
Even artificial waves doesnt create any waves in pool. Should improve the wave strength and shld provide for more ropes inbetween the pool for grip when water reaches above hip.
Total average spending will come around Rs. 1800 per person. TICKET 850+ LUNCH 250 +SNACKS 200 +DRESS FOR WATER RIDES 250 +WATER BOTTLE 60 + OTHER PAID RIDES 200. + parking. These are approx avg. May go up too. So better decide if its worth the spend.
Hope its uselful for mangament to have better pricing and to upcoming visitiors to...
