At the outset my review may seem HARSH with 3 stars but honestly our experience was 3.5 stars at best. Don't get me wrong though, The Beach Terrace is fairly new and has the potential to become an ABSOLUTE BEAST of a restaurant in Chennai which can dominate few of the best in the city quite easily. It's just not there yet and I will explain WHY it isn't and HOW it can get there.
Ambience (5/5) Easily one of the most Instagrammable places in Chennai so far. Located within the enormous VGP Golden Beach Resort (sea front property), it is marketed as a Mediterranean themed restaurant and it definitely has all the right Santorini vibes.
Colour themes are white and blue constructed in a very rustic fashion with large blue gates, balconies and doors. Everything has energetic vibes and make for amazing photo backgrounds be it day or night.
The restaurant is located on the 1st floor with both indoor and outdoor seating spaces. Do note, the sea is visible from outside only.
Music (5/5) Amazing songs. All English but they go very well with the theme. The songs have been carefully selected and have a great uplifting effect. Do note, music plays only inside the restaurant. Outdoor seating has no music. You can still hear the sound of waves, though, which is very calming.
Food (2/5) The food was a HUGE disappointment. They currently have just Indian and Chinese options with Mediterranean and Italian to come later but even the current options are not great.
Mutton Seekh (2/5): Minimally spiced and soggy. Not only was there no smoky flavour in it, it was not very hot either. Chili Chicken (1/5): Again pretty disappointing. Not enough spice or soya sauce. - Please try the one at Sunday's at Anna Nagar. You will understand what I mean Mushroom salt and pepper (1/5): Almost black with the amount of pepper. You couldn't taste the mushroom. It was also soggy. Chicken Gyros (2/5): Again no char from the fire. Almost bland and very soggy. Chili Hot shots (3/5): Cryspy and alright to taste but the wrapping around the green chilli wasn't fresh. Butter chicken Masala (4/5): Decent. We asked for more spice and less sugar and it was given thus. Although, this is the first butter chicken I've tasted which has chicken shredded in it. Chicken fried rice (3/5): Good flavour of chicken but almost zero spice. Rice was also too soft like a pulao (it needs to be a day old and refrigerated to get the proper texture). Butter Garlic Naan (3/5): It was alright. Could have been thinner and more crispy.
Beverages (3/5) No draught beer. Our smoky gin cocktail was overly sweet. Bottled beer served chilled. No suggestions from the bar tender or server and no one asked about our experience.
Service (2/5) I will like to point out that everyone was polite and smiled so the basics are good but our server was almost always absent. We needed to constantly look around. NO ONE else ever came to take our order even when called. They would instead fetch our assigned waiter even when the place was almost empty inside. NO ONE asked us about our experience of food or suggested anything. The Manager never came to ask our experience. No repeat of naan offered.
Tips for Management: Guys, you have a beautiful place which can become a real money minting machine but you all are not realising the potential. Service needs to be more proactive. Strike a conversation. Communicate better. Suggest food and beverage options. Everyone needs to be attentive and eager to serve. Ask about experience in between. Just a smile on the face is not enough. We visited at night and the drive-in was in darkness. It was very very unsettling like we had come to some abandoned place. Please light it up and put more signage. MOST IMPORTANT. Improve your food. I mean, it's very very mediocre. I would STRONGLY recommend you head to THALASSA in Goa and try the food there. Thalassa is also a Mediterranean themed restaurant and it was made popular because of the food. Too much empty space around. Can be filled up with more...

Nestled adjacent to the VGP Golden Beach and overlooking the Bay of Bengal, Beach Terrace is a beachfront restaurant owned by VGP. The restaurant offers a picturesque setting with an entrance and pathway that captivates visitors. The ambience, extending from the entrance to the seating areas, is commendable.
The seating arrangements include AC cabins with a sea-facing view, complete with a bar, as well as outdoor seating on the mezzanine floor, providing an open-air experience under a covered top.
However, the entry fee of Rs 1000 per person, coupled with an expectation to spend a minimum of Rs 1000 per person, serves as a selective filter. This pricing strategy aims to cater to those willing to invest in the experience, creating an atmosphere conducive to a more upscale and intimate setting, with fewer patrons merely seeking drinks.
While the ambience shines, the same cannot be said for the food quality. There is considerable room for improvement, and it is suggested that the establishment invests in enhancing its culinary offerings. The menu, although enticing on paper, falls short of expectations in execution. The lack of a skilled chef capable of bringing the menu to life is evident.
It appears that Beach Terrace may be more geared towards patrons seeking a drinking experience rather than those looking for a family dining atmosphere. The subpar food quality could deter families from fully enjoying the scenic beachfront setting.
In conclusion, Beach Terrace has the potential to be an excellent beachfront restaurant, provided they address the significant issue of food quality. With improvements in this aspect, the restaurant could transform into a sought-after destination, not just for drinkers but also for families seeking a delightful culinary experience by the...
Read moreOne place I regret taking my family for a Birthday Diner. Its not the huge cost they charge, but the food that we ate. Worst food I had ever had in my life. I had huge expectation going in with my family. Quality of service has also gone down. Only thing good was the ambiance and the private beech we had in spending quality time with family. Apart from that literally all were terrible.
Detailed explanation of the food are as follows:
Gobi 65 – Really god only knows what they have cooked. Stale Gobi and I am sure, this gobi must have been there for ages as the food was rotty and smelly. Luckily we didn’t allow the food to be given to the kids.
Crispy fried vegetables: Another dish, I don’t even want to eat anywhere as it made me hate this dish itself. Highly salty, disgusting with high soya sauce. Real bad vegetables I had ever taken.
Chicken Biryani: Rice with curry, one can call it instead of biriyani. Rice mixed with already prepared generela curry sauce in the kitchen and mixed with chicken and given. More of chicken veg fried biryani. Highly oily and It was like eating in fast food centre instead of restaurant.
Egg curry: Obnoxious eggs made and mixed with thick gravy as one wouldn’t understood why a simple dish couldn’t be made.
Panner tikka starter: Understandably paneer is very soft as it wouldn’t have been made at restaurant. But the tandoori sauce and the way the vegetables on the skew was burnt cooked, not even an underrated restaurant would do so.
Chicken Salad: This dish was Ok and not the greatest.
Chicken Kadai: Only dish that we ate comfortably. Fresh chicken with nice aroma and taste. I am sure that after a huge fight with the management we got this. Otherwise this also would have gone...
