Sababay Winery We got to Sababay 10minutes late having a Gojeck driver pick us up from Sanur. He was quite layback and drove like he had all day to get there. Good for us, the other two couples to join our wine tour were also late. We were greeted and given a glass of iced water with a slice of lime. Always refreshing. Our guide was extremely well informed and knowledgeable about the Winery and wines. We started off with the history of Sababay and then moved on to watch a couple of short videos. Why videos? The process cannot be watched unless you are there for the actual harvest and are able to see the process from picking the grapes, right through all the steps. We then went to view the various wines they make, and the alcohol content of same. We then went to see where the wine is fermented (and you can smell it, but it's not overpowering), and the huge vats that store the wine during its aging process. From there, we walked back to another part of the building to sample a sparkling rose. Lovely nose and delightful flavours on the palate. Very nice indeed. Afterwards we headed back to the main building into a delightful room set up for wine tasting and meals. Our table looked amazing, and it was a surprise for me, not knowing what my daughter had booked. The staff were very friendly and relaxed and good banter between us as we practiced our little Indonesian language skills. They were startled, but very pleased to hear us speaking their language and engaged us often. We started off with a Reserve dry white wine that we found very nice. Then a dry red wine, and lastly a sweet red wine. We were given a lovely local cheese plus fruit and nuts platter, as well as deep fried potatoes and a lovely tomato salsa. We did order extras, with my daughter and fiance both ordering the coffee liquor drink that came with icecream and a sweet biscuit in the glass. I chose a sample of the Infused Vodka on ice..hmm, should have ordered it as a drink, but it was so good, with various spice flavours emulating from it. Too good actually. We also ordered a nacho dish with lots of herb flavours in the tomatoes and at $5.50, it was a good deal. My thoughts? The Sababay Winery tour, information and tasting was exceptional value and well...
Read moreI joined tasting already at 2019 and now at 2022 I want to try again to find out what is new. In 2019 entrance fee was 150K and we had private tour around winery, with personal butler and we even meet their Australian wine master. In 2022 the entrance fee is 180K for cheapest option and we were joined other people who came same time as we did. The guide has microfone and mask, so it was very hard to understand. The legend about the owner lady, who wanted to help local people remains the same. What changes I noted between then and now. In 2019 there were not garden, they just started to build it. Today winery garden was very nice and very good maintained and comfy. Tasting notes: Moscato Di Bali - too sweet (cannot understand how it could win several prices) Pink Blossom - smells like desinfection (maybe bad dishwashing?), taste was awful, cannot even desribe, I did not drink, they should immediately stop to sell, cos it seems wine is spoiled Red reserva - excellent Grappa Saba - delicious🙏 Ascaro - brut prosecco NO STOCK, no taste Infusion vodka Saba - taste no good, cannot desribe why, the smell was very nice, but taste was disappointment White Velvet - they did not have for tasting, so we bought whole bottle to taste and decide to buy after 12 bottles. They did not have even 1 single piece. What a shame!!! They of course pushed us to buy more expensive wines. To be honest, we were really disappointed by the management of this winery. What is the point to offer tasting, when you cannot buy? Last one, I need to say that all staff was very friendly, smilling, professional, even they cannot help much about...
