Telaga Warna Dieng — Attraction in Central Java

Nice cooling place to visit and not just the lake. You can also smell sulfer coming from the lake as you walk around the lake.

The Legend of Telaga Warna

Once upon a time, there was a prosperous kingdom called Kutatanggeuhan. Kuta means place, while tanggeuhan means well-founded or solid. It was ruled by a wise king named Prabu Suwartalaya and his wife, Queen Purbamanah. During his reign, the people of Kutatanggeuhan were thriving and lived peacefully.

However, the king and queen didn’t feel content. They felt something was missing since they had been married for a long time, but they still didn’t have any children. The king and queen never considered adoption. They insisted that their happiness would be completed by having their own child.

One day the king decided to meditate praying to the Almighty to grant him children. Finally, his wish was granted. The queen gave birth to a daughter. They named her Nyi Ajeng Gilang Rukmini a.k.a. Princess Ayu Kencana Ungu. Her parents were ecstatic, they arranged a huge party to celebrate the birth of the princess. All of the people in the kingdom are invited. They partied three days and nights.

The princess grew up to be a very beautiful lady. Her parents and all of the kingdom loved her so much. Unfortunately, they showed their love by spoiling her. Anything the princess wanted, she got it. Her favorite pastime was wearing beautiful, priceless jewelry. She was never satisfied with her collections, she kept asking for more. She would get angry and sulking when people didn’t do what she asked. So, in the end, everybody especially her parents always granted her wishes.

Years went by until the day the princess reached her seventeenth birthday. By then she was spoiled rotten. The king arranged another huge party for the whole kingdom to celebrate it. The people decided to collectively set aside many precious stones and metals to create a beautiful necklace for their beautiful princess.

At the birthday celebration, people from all over the kingdom gathered in the capital square. The royal family stepped up to the podium in the middle of the square. Then, the representative of the people presented the beautiful necklace as their birthday gift. But when the princess opened the box, everybody was surprised to see her frowned.

As soon as the king asked her to put on the necklace, her face was distorted with rage. In her opinion it was a tacky necklace, so she threw it to the floor until it was shattered. Saddened by how her ungrateful daughter treated them all, the queen cried gravely.  One by one the people cried too. Suddenly, a spring emerged on the ground. The stream never let up until the kingdom was drowned. Eventually, it became a lake. People called it Telaga Warna since the color of the lake kept changing. It was said the color change was due to the sparks of the shattered necklace at the bottom...

Half of the pathway to circle the lake is inaccessible, low budget children playground, under maintained.

The ticket is expensive for locals, they charge more than three times for foreigners.

Telaga Warna is a twin crater lakes, one is the Telaga Warna "Lake Colour" which has green colour due to sulphur elements, the other one is Lake Pengilon "Lake Mirror" which is pure clear water.

Only half of the lakes are accessible, the pathway to Lake Pengilon is totally under maintained.

This lake has spiritual / mystical importance. One is Bumi Pertolo, a meditation place hidden in hydrangea garden, which has a sacred big rock behind the house. Bumi Pertolo Nini Dewi Cundo Manik is secluded, silent and eerie.

The other one is cave complex which has names and context like Cave Semar, cave horse, cave Jaran and lots more. The complex receives less sunlight, the woods are covered with moss. Feels like suddenly entering into another realms.

View from the Lakeshore is just ok. View from the hills is much better. You better go to Ratapan Angin hills, Dieng Park or Petak 9 to get better scenery of...

Telaga Warna merupakan salah satu wisata terbaik dari dataran tinggi dieng. Berada di ketinggian 2000 meter diatas permukaan laut tidak menghalangi para wisatawan untuk mengeksplor keunikan panorama alam Telaga Warna.

Secara Administratif, Telaga Warna Masuk Wilayah Desa Dieng Wetan, Kecamatan Kejajar, Kabupaten Wonosobo, Jawa Tengah.

Pemandangan danau yang tenang dengan permukaan air yang hijau dikelilingi pepohonan rindang dipadu dengan pantulan cahaya matahari yang akan membiaskan warna danau bak pelangi menjadi keunikan telaga ini. Karna keunikannya telaga tersebut oleh penduduk sekitar diberikan nama Telaga Warna Dieng. air yang ada di tempat tersebut sering berubah-ubah, terkadang memiliki warna hijau, lalu kuning, dan pernah suatu ketika warna bisa menjadi banyak seperti pelangi. Hal tersebut terjadi bukan karena ada kekuatan gaib, akan tetapi karena air telaga disini mengandung zat sulfur yang cukup tinggi, sehingga ketika terkena paparan sinar Matahari, warnanya akan seperti pelangi.

Selain itu, di telaga ini juga terdapat letupan air mendidih di tengah-tengah telaga seperti yang terjadi di Kawah Putih, Provinsi Jawa Barat. Menurut mitos yang berkembang di Masyarakat Dieng, beragam warna yang muncul dipermukaan Telaga Warna , Konon diakibatkan pada jaman dahulu kala ada Cincin milik seorang bangsawan yang jatuh ke dasar telaga tersebut. Memasuki gerbang Telaga Warna , anda akan menjumpai 2 cabang Jalan setapak. Menyusuri Jalan setapak sebelah Kanan, selain keindahan pemandangan Telaga Warna anda juga bisa melihat Kejernihan panorama Telaga Pengilon yang terletak tepat bersebelahan dengan Telaga Warna . disepanjang Jalan setapak, anda juga terdapat beberapa Goa seperti Goa Semar, Goa sumur, Goa jaran serta Batu Tulis.

Di Telaga Warna Dieng juga ada beberapa Candi bercorak Hindu yang menghiasi pemandangan di area Telaga Warna Dieng tersebut. Maka tak heran apabila banyak wisatawan yang berkunjung ke Telaga Warna Dieng untuk berwisata ataupun sekedar melepas penat dengan menghirup udara segar di daerah pegunungan saat musim liburan. Selain sebagai obyek wisata, Telaga Warna Dieng juga memiliki manfaat untuk warga sekitar sebagai sumber irigasi untuk mengairi tanaman yang menjadi komoditas utama di daerah Dieng tersebut.

Meski cuma berupa dua buah batu yang berada ditempat yang agak tinggi, pesona Batu ini senantiasa menarik para wisatawan untuk mengunjunginya.
