Padang Pasir Bromo — Attraction in East Java

A fantastic adventure! My girlfriend and I are backpacking and drove a mopped rather than use a jeep tour. If you’re looking to do the same it’s really easy. Just park your bike at the bottom of the road, across the sand. And it’s about a 20 minute walk across. You will be able to see the sign around where you park, there is no signage for parking but an open space.

We went at midday which is a fantastic time to go, we had the whole volcano to ourselves. Around 1pm I believe. It’s a fantastic volcano! And the landscape is like something from another world!

It is prohibited for people to walk fully around the crater. There is a sign to stop people walking past a certain point. It is safe to walk past this point, the sign is left of the stairs with a clear path. You can have a little wonder and see the crater from a higher point. Just be careful not to hang around too long because of the fumes.

If you are looking to save money, parking and walking is the best way to go. The walk is easy, if you park before the sand just head towards the temple.
