Our recent visit to the Thousand Islands Viewpoint left us with super mixed feelings, due to an unfortunate encounter upon arrival. While the natural beauty of Nusa Penida is widely known, it’s important for all visitors to be aware of certain experiences that might affect the visit.

Upon reaching the viewpoint early in the morning, we were greeted by a person who asked for payment both for parking and for entry to the viewpoint—an additional 25k IDR. This came as a surprise since we were unaware of any official ticketing system in place at this particular location ( like for Diamond Beach). When we asked for clarification or official confirmation regarding the entry fee or some paper ticket, the person became increasingly agitated and aggressive and was unable to provide any legitimate proof of an official ticket.

Instead of receiving a valid ticket or receipt, he shown us a small bottle of water and a plastic bracelet, which, in addition to the dubious fee, only adds to unnecessary plastic consumption and waste - we saw them already before littered on the Diamond Beach.The aggressive attitude of the person collecting the fees, combined with the lack of transparency, made us feel really uncomfortable, leading us to ultimately decide not to go to the viewpoint.
