We are having a private day tour around the island of Nusa Penida. The island is beautiful and with quite a lot of breath taking sight. It's a popular day trip location even for the locals.

We went to the "London Bridge", Angel Billabong, T-Rex island, "Diamond Beach" and last but not least, The Tree House.

All our sightseeing has been good and amazing until The Tree House....

This place is all about money but no service and maintenance. We have to pay 25k per pax for the entry. And every photo taking spot e.g. the swing, the heart shaped chair and the tree house, we have to pay separately. And The Tree House is the most expensive of all which cost an additional 75k to just take a photo there.

There is no system in the queue for taking picture there. We bought the ticket for both entry and tree house at the main entrance. The staff gave us our queue number which is #60. When we walked all the way to the Tree House, we then realise we have to "exchange" for another queue number (becoming #74). As we are waiting patiently for our turn, we heard a commotion by a few other tourists with the staff. Apparently, they have been waiting for more than one hrs. They also mentioned to the staff that why there are other tourists that came later than them can take photo first. And are taking so long (which their rules is 2 mins per person). And to sadden them even worst, the staffs is giving them a heck care attitude and giving them jokingly laughter, speaking other things in their own language. That few tourists left angrily eventually without the photo taken. They staff even shout "goodbye" and "thank you" loudly when the tourists leave. This is exceptionally rude!

For me and my friend, we texted our tour guide and requesting for a refund. And our tour guide just came over, giving their boss or in-charge a call, that's where the staffs start to work more seriously and more attentive in calling queue number. We believe they did give "privilege" to some other tour guide to allow their tour group more time to take picture or a faster queue track.

The view is nice, but the service and queue system is horrible. Would not recommend to come unless you have time to waste and willing to wait for hrs under...

Total and absolute rip off. You have to pay 25k idr per person at the entrance. This gets you a small bottle of water and a rubber bracelet (no, these are not optional, you have to pay the 25k idr entrance fee whether you want the water and bracelet or not). Then there's the best part, they won't tell you up the top that you actually have pay 75k idr per person for a 2 minute photo op where you'll be using your own phone anyway. People will feel trapped and forced to pay the fee because that is pretty much the only reason to go there and they already made the hard 10-15 minute journey down the steps(which are not safe by the way, only a flimsy set of ropes as "hand rails"). At least give the people a chance to decide if they really do want to pay the exorbitant amount of money to get the "shot". I don't care what anyone says. It is a deliberate deceitful scheme to get your hard earned money.

About the tree house itself:

Yes, it is in a beautiful spot and the aesthetic is awesome. But, it is extremely unsafe. The steps are flimsy and slope downwards. The rope hand rails only go up halfway between your knees and ankles. They will do nothing to help you in case you fall off the side.

The staff there are nice. NOT! Out of all the spots we visited around Nusa Penida, this is the only place where the staff are arrogant and condescending. They only see tourists as walking wallets. Not to mention they smoke at the waiting area where most tourists are waiting for their turn to be scammed. I mean take pictures with the famous tree house. To be fair, anyone who runs this scheme is dead inside anyway.

For anyone who reads this and the countless other reviews and still decides to spend 100k idr per person (25k entrance + 75k tree house photo op), go for it. I just want you to know what you're getting into before you invest your time, money and energy. The price may be worth it for some people. But, the principle on which they do business here is very devious and scummy. At least use the money from this scam to improve the safety of the path and the tree house itself.

Beautiful spot...

This place is recommend for you who like traveling (for sure). From the parking area you should walk down and meet a post to pay for the entering ticket. A person is charged for 10 thousand rupiah. A little bit expensive to charge that price for each person, right?

Next to post, you will meet wooden swing. The swing is paid. If you want to get in or just for taking pictures, you will charge for 20-25 thousand rupiah (if i’m not mistaken)

Then, far far a way you will see the house in the middle of the forest surrounded by the sea. My suggestion, should you visit this place in a full energy of you unless you spend a lot of time around the street. From the ticket post, you will walk around 2-4 minutes before going down many big stone stairs (that i myself almost giving up while descending it and it was so hard to climb it back then wkwk :x )

Even they said in descending the stairs you need 5-7 minutes, i think i spend around 10-12 minutes doing that wkwk, then you need to climb a little bit (around 10 stairs) to meet the tree house. To take a picture here, you need to take a queue number and pay 50 thousand rupiah each person who wants posing at the tree.

Btw, you also can take a pose above the tree house without paying nothing but you have to climb the stone stair again to get there. The view is good because we can see diamond and atuh beach from there. So much beauty standing above of it.

Make sure you prepare beverages or mineral water with you during the trip, so when you’re too tired walking the place you can drink the water then....

Rumah Pohon Tree House, perched on the cliffs of Nusa Penida, Bali, is an iconic destination known for its breathtaking views and photogenic charm. Overlooking the azure waters and rugged coastline, it offers a unique vantage point that's become a favorite among travelers and photographers alike. Accessing the treehouse for photos requires a fee of approximately 75,000 IDR (around $5 USD) per person. This grants you a brief window—typically about 3 minutes—to capture your shots on the steps leading up to the treehouse . While the fee might seem steep for the short duration, many find the resulting photographs, set against the stunning backdrop of the Thousand Islands viewpoint, to be well worth the cost. Given its popularity, especially during sunrise and sunset, visitors often encounter queues. Arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon can help avoid the peak crowds and provide a more relaxed experience . Love Hard, Travel Often amandamoniquebrown.com Despite the associated costs and potential wait times, Rumah Pohon Tree House remains a must-visit for those seeking a memorable photo opportunity in Bali. Its captivating scenery and distinctive setting make it a highlight for many travelers exploring Nusa Penida.
