Strandhill Golf Club — Attraction in County Sligo

I played this course May 2014 with my brother, nephew and three friends, all from the U.S. The views are spectacular, the set up is crazy challenging, the course is in great shape, the price is reasonable and the experience is memorable and unique. Two of us were from south Florida and the others from Minneapolis, Minnesota. You really need to keep the ball in play on this course. If you hit it into the gorse (long grasses) you may never find your ball. We were not familiar with the course so we lost a lot of golf balls, a lot! As a group we're very average golfers, so we were in over our heads a bit. Regardless of scoring, I am very glad we played the course and left totally impressed and were thrilled with the entire experience. Side note: if you need to rent equipment, they have some sets of new Talyomade clubs, so...

One word - fabulous. The service, the welcoming, the maintenance and the course itself. What a beauty of a links golf course, bumps everywhere, have your strategic game on hand! It's not a course which offers generous fairways to allow for driver everywhere. Every hole is fun to play but especially 4 - 8 and 11 to 17 are true beauties. Number 13 is one of the coolest golf holes you'll find, a blind tee shot, narrow landing area and a green as tiny as a bottle capsule protected by two big dunes. Number 5 had a fairway like a moon landscape, bumps wherever you look. Although other courses are higher rated, this one is - in my opinion - the true beauty and gem in the area. I first played Strandhill in 1991 with my late father on a family holiday, and a number of times after that until about 2010. After a long time away from the area, I played Strandhill again in summer 2022 and in autumn 2024 after the improvements had begun. I enjoyed both rounds so much that I joined as an international member. It's the same welcoming place I remember but also improved.

I played five rounds in five days last week on my first visit as a member and I can't wait to get back. Xavier and his team do a great job. Very pleasant...
