We were in Strand Hill for a day out, and needed some dinner. We popped into the Strand Bar. A waitress found the 3 of us a table fairly quickly, this was dispite the fact, that as far as I could see the place was packed. After being shown to our table. I decided to head to the toilets. This gave me a chance to check out more of the pub. I found on my walk about that they had a huge range of draught beers/largers on tap. The place was also as I suspected packed throughout.
There was a mixed crowd, some watching the rugby on the several screens around the bar. A lively conversation was going on at the bar, with an Ulster-Man enthusiastically supporting Munster's efforts.
Others were there for a few drinks, or a meal. There was a good cross section of customers, and this pub seems very popular with locals. There was a blazing fire at one end of the pub, providing a nice warm glow.
The same waitress that showed us to our table, noticed me wandering, and pointed me to the gents. The toilets were very clean, well stocked and smelled nice.
Having returned to the table, the other two were ready to order. Another friendly waitress appeared, and took our orders for food and drinks.
I have never had such quick service in all of my life. I don't mean hurried, just quick. It was no time at all, to the food arriving at our table. All three of us were amazed how quick our food was ready.
Between us, we had a roast beef dinner, a smokey burger, and stuffed mushrooms. All three of us enjoyed our meals, with no complaints, and clean plates all around.
The other two had liqueur coffees, one an Irish, and one a Calypso, and also one of them had a sticky toffee pudding. They both enjoyed their afters immensely.
The bill was just over €90 for three drinks, three main meals, two liqueur coffees and one desert.
The food was very tasty, the service was quick and friendly, there was a nice lively atmosphere, the pub was warm and had interesting decor throughout.
A top class pub, well worth a visit if you are in that part of the world. This is how an Irish pub should look, feel,...
Read moreEight of us had a meal here Sunday 3rd August, decided to give it another chance after a bad experience last month when we visited with 15+ guests... Good points: For the most part staff helpful and friendly, clean facilities, fast service and good drinks! Bad points: There is one middle-aged lady with glasses who is working here a long time she does not like e her job, everything is a problem, she is very rude and has an attitude to match....any time we visit it is not just us but we observe others diners shocked by her manner. Last night we ordered together, 3 of our meals did not arrive until after the plates were cleared from the other main courses at the table, at that point one of the meals was missing it's chips and so we asked the server, her reply was 'sorry kitchen closed, im sorry I had it on docket but it was missed', after this we watched several other items coming from kitchen to another group, food over all was disappointing, as it was the end of the night we felt it was thrown together, very skimpy with no effort in presenting it. My meal was last to arrive and before I finished this lady came to take plate from me, she returned in two minutes to ask us to pay, we then asked to see the dessert menu, keeping in mind im.still eating, she stood at table staring at us to order dessert, we asked for some time to decide and finish food and she was back in one minute so we said we would not have any to avoid any further problems, bill followed with haste and there was 2 extra drinks when we reviewed it....her response was 'it's good to check it isn't it' - Same experience as before with this lady....definitely last time to eat here. We spent a lot of money over the night, the least you expect...
Read moreThe Strand Bar is the heart and soul of Strandhill, offering a true taste of local Irish pub culture right on the beach. Unlike many other spots in the area, it's open every day and stays open later, making it the perfect place to gather for a late dinner or a few drinks. The atmosphere is fantastic—it’s a traditional pub with a great local feel, full of character and friendly faces. It's the kind of place where you can relax and feel right at home. The pub serves both lunch and dinner, and the menu is extensive, with a great selection of classic pub fare and daily specials. We particularly enjoyed the rich and creamy seafood chowder, which was absolutely delicious and perfect for a chilly evening. The blue cheese burger was another standout, flavorful and cooked to perfection. For those who want to enjoy the coastal air, there's a separate menu for the outside area, which includes pizzas served late into the evening. It’s a great option for a more casual bite or just to enjoy a drink with friends. Whether you're looking for a traditional Irish meal, a few great pints of Guinness, or just a place to relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere, The Strand Bar is a must-visit. It's a cornerstone of the Strandhill community and a wonderful spot for a...
